I candled quite a bit on mine that just hatched Mon/Tues. It was a science project for the girls and our first hatch. We had a very high hatch rate and all the chicks are very healthy. I was very careful about washing hands before and after and not fully rotating the eggs around etc.
Enjoy...
I have two babies....about 6 days old who look like they are trying to but no sounds comes out at all. It is pretty funny. We can not have roosters though so hopefully they will stay quiet for a while.
Well, I had one who arrived on time and all the others were late. So hopefully soon you will hear a little something. It is amazing to me that I can buy the cheapest incubator I could find on ebay (that hatched more than 3 eggs at a time), and have no turner or fan, and no hydometer until lock...
No, not panting. I guess it could have been a yawn....didn't realize chickens yawned. LOL! It happened several times in a row when I was watching today. Neither of the two seemed to be stressed at all. Everyone is eating and drinking well, and the temp is perfect. It just looked so odd...
I purchased an assortment of 12 eggs from ebay and I have 7 new chicks that are 2 days old. So it can be done! I got mine from Gabbard Farm Hatching Eggs. In the assortment I got 2 BLO, 2 BO, 2 BCM, 2 EM, 2 SSH and 2 GL ....plus 2 SL. I went into lock down with 9 and ended up with 7. Two of...
I saw the weirdest thing today with my 2 day old chicks. One of them kept opening its mouth like it was trying to crow or something, but no sound was coming out. Is this normal?? What was it trying to do? Is it possibly a rooster that is trying to crow but is too young? Has anyone else seen...
Ok guys....here are a few of the pics. This is the first one born.....Blue Orpington.....and the cuddle buddy we gave him while he waited over 24 hours for his hatch mates. This guy has got to be a rooster. He is huge, and strutting around like he owns the place (probably feels like he does...

Ok....question....my last BO that hatched is dragging pink stuff behind her. One of two of the others had some yellow stuff, but it fell off quickly. She has been dragging this around for about 4 hours. I had to keep her away from the others because a...
Ok...I have been out all evening so sorry for the delay. I am STILL working on the pics. It has been VERY chaotic around here. We are now up to 7 chicks!!!! The two left are the EM and the SSH. (the SSH is the one that blood dripped out of when he pipped)
I will get pics to you guys soon!!
Oh and here is a cute story for you. We took the first little fuzz ball out of the bator yesterday and he was very lonely in the brooder. He would go crazy every time I walked away. Well, we had a "hatching sleep over party" last night with my girls, and a neice and nephew. My sleeping spot...
The humidity is holding steady at 75....temp about 100ish. I do hear peeping, but I am pretty sure it is the maran and not the SSH. It was weird because it was this tiny little pip for hours, then it got larger and some blood started dripping out. It has stopped bleeding and it dried up on...
Problem.....ok one of the eggs pipped a few hours ago, it is a small tiny hole. There is now blood coming out of the hole. Is this a problem? I know there is nothing I can do, but is this common??
By the way, chick #1 is doing great but he really needs some buddies.
Here is another pics of the little peeper. I have quit pacing so much. The kids are settled in watching a movie and I am listening to the sweet peep, peep, peep of our little chickie.
