    Poultry Flooring

Yes, they are rubber. Mine are 3/4” thick and very durable. I was concerned that the chickens pecking at them could possibly make them crumble but that has not been my experience. I have been using mine for about 4 years now and they are still working.

    Poultry Flooring

This is for inside the coop, not the run. I can add shavings if wanted and the poo scrapes off easily.

I added stall mats over a dirt floor, it has worked beautifully!

    Egg Sales

I have been wondering if the ‘honesty box’ should be a coffee can in the cooler or screwed off to a post outside to cooler. I am leaning towards just a container in the cooler and if its gets stolen then I am no worse off than I am now. Do I tell them the eggs are from chickens feed orgainic...

    Egg Sales

For the first time I am thinking about selling my excess eggs. In the past I have always given away my excess to friends and neighbors but the feed is becoming so expensive that I am tempted to put a cooler at the end of my driveway and post a for sale sign when I have extra. I don’t have a...

    NEED ADVICE!! :)

I am currently using azygous method of integrating my new babies and older hens. Here is the link to the article: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/reasons-for-tossing-out-your-indoor-brooder-and-start-raising-your-chicks-outdoors.71995/ This has been a game changer for both me and...

    Dog attack and Extreme shock

I don't have experience with a 'controlled iodine spray' so read how they expect it to be used. I am so glad you have not had to deal with this before but now you are learning some very valuable skills that will help both you and your flock into the future. Good Luck!!

    Dog attack and Extreme shock

If it is not adding to his stress I would be tempted to move forward with the cleaning and bandaging ASAP.

    Dog attack and Extreme shock

I agree with SmiYa0126, clean the wound as best you can & bandage him up. If you have any betadine on hand that is a good disinfectant. Also, If you have any vet wrap you can use that to hold the bandage in place, just don't put it on too tight. When one of my hens was attacked by a fox her...

Should I add flooring/bedding to coop floor?

I agree with aart. I would look at the product you use and see when it says the product is fully cured. You will probably need two coats of paint and then it would likely be 24-48 hours for it to fully cure. Could you set up a temporary coop in the run, maybe a large dog crate for them to...

Should I add flooring/bedding to coop floor?

I dont think it is mandatory to paint but I would highly recommend it. I used Impervo which is a hard enamel paint that I used for the interior trim in my house. In my old coop I used it on the floor and walls. For my new coop I used it on the walls and the poop board. The last thing you...

Should I add flooring/bedding to coop floor?

I agree that the floor should be painted to protect it from water spills & chicken life! I had a dirt floor and added horse stall mats a few years ago. I have been very happy with how they have worked out. I still use pine shavings on the floor but not as heavy as before. The clean up has...

    Dog breeds

My vote is for English Shepherds, I have fallen in love with this breed. My dog, Tez, loves her birds and all animals that we have determined are part of our household. Her goal is to help me with whaterver task is at hand and to protect our property from rats, foxes and anything we may deem...

Topic of the Week - Dogs and Chickens

My dog loves her chicks. There are the six she raised and then the one from a prior flock. The one from the prior flock is not allowed to do anything to "her" chicks. She counts them every morning and evening and if one is missing she goes out to find them. Just the other day one was missing...

Official BYC Poll: Do Your Chickens Go Inside Their Coop When It Snows?

This current flock is particulary paranoid about snow. Last week the whole flock was crowding out the door when the ones in front realized that it has snowed over night. The ones in back were oblivious and pressed forward to go outside while the ones in front held their ground. It reminded...

    Dog's first heat, any tips?

I had never owned a dog that was not spayed until my current dog. At first I was so paranoid that I would drive long distances to walk her for fear that male dogs would track her down and break into our yard. I have yet to experience that problem. My dog is now seven years old and her heat...
