BABY #3 is out, looks like my lady had 100% her first go round.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous, seeing as I don't think I've done better than 85%. HAHA. I'm feeling competative with a CHICKEN! Good grief..
Nothing as of last night, so hoping I'll spot evidence of a new hatcher at some point today.
Poor Mama, I hope she gets one, she's done such a good job.
DID IT!
It's all good, 3 look awesome and exactly as they should for about Day 16, 2 were not ferfile, which astonishes me with the amount of lovin' going on out there.
So hopefully she gets a babe, or two, or three.
Here she is in her assumed position! A blue ball of fluff.
@ AlienChick, that was what I was worried about, so I planted the eggs I wanted her to have then moved her out in her pet carrier she was hunkered down in into the brooder box by herself. Now nobody can bug her, it was everybody's favourite place to lay and they kept adding and adding to her...
Thank you, you too!
What is she sitting on this time and how many can she fit under her? haha. I thought I might have been pushing my luck with 5 and such a tiny little butt...
WELL, I finally packed up the incubator in November to take a break till spring...then the weather has been SO odd and unseasonably warm, I got my first broody, and then another, and then another.
Yes it is December, so not ideal, but #3 decided it wasn't for her once I put her boyfriend back...
How is everyone doing?
I candled last night, Day 8, and all but 1 looked excellent, it was unfertilized, I had also thrown 3 refridgerated ones in there just to see and fill it up and they were duds also (which I had expected cause they were much older), so I'm sitting pretty at 21 wiggly...
My husband and his brother, when they were kids, thought it would be hilarious to swap eggs on an old broody hen and a broody duck.
Apparently it was pretty entertaining, he said both Mama's just mothered up their babies and all was well until a couple weeks in and the chicken's duck babies...
Well it's wonderful to see I'm not alone!
I presently have some 18, 6 day old babes out in the brooder; lav orps, blue orps, light sussex, one silver sussex and some black copper marans.
I also have 16, 1 month old babies in the pen next to them, - my silver-grey dorkings, oeg, and some...
Not mine, total country boy! We've had everything for years; horses, cows, sheep, pigs, dogs and barncats but any sort of bird was where I drew the line.
I got some ducks figuring I would like them cause they are so cute, they're cool but I don't seem to feel the same way about them that I do...
Sounds great!
You know, it's his "I told you so!", he has wanted me to get chickens for 10 years and I was always and completely NO FREAKIN' WAY!
Then some guy gives the kids two chicks and now I've gone bird-crazy and have 50+, he just laughs at me! He even argued with me when he saw the...
I promised I was done with the last crew...BUT - then my hubby bought me a new incubator and it showed up Monday, so I've been collecting barnyard eggs all week to test out the new rig - THEN, I've promised myself I'm putting it away until into the New Year!
I normally use a Hovabator but have...
I've had it plugged in for 2 hours now, and the temp is at about 99F with the thermometer it came with, but the cradle does not seem to have moved...did I put it in there wrong? Shouldn't it appear to be in a different position after 2 hours?
