I don't think the TSC's arrange them but I think they let you have them in their lots so that people buying chickens will come in to buy feed/waterers, etc. At least that's the case in this area.......
I just hatched my first batch of buckeyes. What surprised me was a few came out very light colored (almost yellow) and a few are very dark (almost all brown). Do they normally hatch out with that much color variation? Is there a way to tell early on the boys from the girls or do you have to...
I have a few hens who do the same thing. Despite the big row of nest boxes some of the hens fuss when another dares to lay an egg in their favorite place - it's like someone pounding on the bathroom door while your doing business, even if they don't need to go in themselves.
Maybe you could...
I've found Bourbon Reds to be the calmest & friendliest, but as Steve said above, they sure are curious so if you are trying to paint the barn you'll have to pen them up otherwise your next post will be "How do I get paint off my turkeys?"

That's why I always check this site first when looking for something - the majority of people here take very good care of their birds. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who pampers my poultry - my neighbors thought I was crazy for all the $ I put towards it until they saw how big &...
This'll be fun.
Struttn1, I agree shipped eggs don't always get the best results but it's probably better than trying to ship poults - it's hard enough to keep them from comitting suicide in the brooder.......
Thanks Bargain - for now we are looking to hatch.......
weebug - I'll be sure to PM you. Are you also having this awful cold snap? 14 tonight w/ windchill making it feel below 0 !
edited to add I'm near South Boston in VA
I'll be sure & PM you both after the holidays!
It's going to be 14 tonight but the wind chill will make it below 0.
Anyone know how much cold turkeys can stand? Mine are in a barn that I've made as draft free as I can, but I'm still worried about the cold. This kind of weather is unusual for us....
That would be great!
Mine laid eggs for the first time this spring and even though they went broody, they kept smooshing eggs because they were constantly stealing them from each other. Then the tom went broody and kept smooshing them - I was constantly cleaning egg off him. I ended up...
Just sort of throwing this out there to see.......
I have a tom from this year's hatch that is so pretty & sweet I can't part with him. I'd like to hatch some unrelated hens for him to love. I know I will need to put him in another pen in spring because he will fight with his dad. I plan to...
Would like to purchase a dozen or so fertile Buckeye eggs as soon as the weather permits shipping.
(We are having an unusual cold snap here in VA) We picked this breed because they are on the endangered list and they are cold hardy. The new coop & run is set up - now we just need to hatch some...
