    Fancy and Fun Bin

I think this was more combining of bins and these were older and the label didn’t move with the birds.

    Fancy and Fun Bin

Yeah I’ve got 4 Red Stars, which are just red sex links, and a golden comet. Was hoping for something anxtually fancy or more “fun”. I love my red stars! These just don’t look like they did.

    Fancy And Fun Pullet Bin

Pretty sure I got duped and my gamble went bad 😂 any guesses on breeds? Genders? They don’t look like my golden comet did or my red star and those are the only red production breeds my local stores carry.

    Fancy And Fun Pullet Bin

No frizzle. I thought maybe but turned out nope.

    Fancy and Fun Bin

I’m fully aware I gambled. Bin said “Fancy and Fun Pullets” but it was a fun surprise guessing game 😂 they’re roughly 9-11 weeks old now. Any guesses on breed and genders? I marked green and red to differentiate. They both seem to have rounded hackles but I know it’s to early to really tell.

Shipped eggs early and incubator late

So if I incubate upright, pointy side down, twist to turn, how long do I leave them upright?

Shipped eggs early and incubator late

So I have the 2 saddle cell and the totally detached upright, small end down, in my incubator. I should even do the 7 good ones? How do you turn if you are doing them on their ends? Roughly 150 miles. Shipped Monday, arrived Wednesday.

Shipped eggs early and incubator late

So I let them settle and checked. I’ve got one with a completely detached air cell. I’ve got 2 with a broken chalazae I believe as the yolk seems to sink. I’ve got 2 saddle air cells. Then 7 perfect eggs. What’s the best way to handle the broken chalazae? The saddle cells? Any hope for the...

Shipped eggs early and incubator late

Awesome! Thanks y’all! I think I’ll move them to my room where it’s the coolest room in the house and wait the couple days. That way I don’t have to delay someone else’s chicks.

Shipped eggs early and incubator late

Within a few days of being laid they were shipped. Yea, the eggs in my incubator are my rando mixed flock BUT I think I’ve got a customer wanting me to hatch and another wants a dozen. I can’t throw them out or I won’t be able to take both orders (which I really want to do) so if my shipped eggs...

Shipped eggs early and incubator late

I had eggs shipped and they arrived 2 days early. My incubator is running 2 days late. My incubator should’ve been here 2 days prior to the eggs. How long can the eggs sit without being in the incubator? How should I handle/store/turn/tilt them while I wait? My other incubator is full and I...

    No electric and want heat

We have no place like that 😂 I think I’ll just stick with deep litter, get some good rocks/concrete/soapstone to leave out in the sun and put in with them when they go to bed, and insulate well with good wind protection.

    No electric and want heat

These are awesome! Looks like I’ll be fine with insulating better and doing deep litter!

    No electric and want heat

I wonder if I do like a coffee can of lava rock or similar. Tbh this coop will need help come next spring as it isn’t the best and I’m worried about added weight knocking the bottom through. I’ve been working on my deep litter and I know that’ll add weight to the floor. I’ve tried getting help...

    No electric and want heat

So I think the pop can solar heater will work if I can also keep hot rocks or something to hold the heat the solar can heater pumps in during the day. I don’t need it super warm, just not freezing. Any ideas of what would best for my thermal mass?

    No electric and want heat

Yeah my “practical” coop I’m not to worried about. They’re big girls and they’ll be fine. My fancies in the smaller coop are my concern.

    No electric and want heat

And it got down to single digits? I’ve also got a silkie and soon to be a couple showgirls back there.

    No electric and want heat

So everything I’ve read they don’t do so well under 40° So my main concern is when we dip down to single digits and teens. I’ve also got a silkie and soon 2 showgirls back there.
