Well I guess the other one did not want to be out done. Today two little white eggs were waiting for me!! That's pretty interesting that they started laying 3 days apart. Love my egg basket!! Now if only the Marans would start layin'.
Hi!! Just thought I'd share a 'first egg photo'. I purchased 2 brown leghorn chicks this spring. i got the first egg today at 26 weeks!!!! A little longer of a wait than I was expecting.
Hi to all!! Just thought I'd take a moment to share my happy discovery!!
I hatched out 4 F2 oliver hens this spring and so far I have a brown layer, a blue layer, a non layer and joy of joys an olive layer!!!!
She is 27 weeks old and the two dark eggs at the bottom are hers! :woot
Sigh. I lost my olive egger the other day, but she was so pretty. I loved her chocolate feathers. Her name was Eminem (like chocolate MnMs) and laid a pretty olive egg. I hope to get more sometime.
So sorry for your loss.
Was it natural causes?
Today, after a 6 month wait I finally get an egg! This is the hen that was supposed to lay olive eggs.
Alas, no, she is the layer of the pretty blue one...you know what tho? I'm still glad she's a she and maybe she will give me daughters that will lay the elusive olive egg! :hu
No, definitely would not use her for breeding Marans. If I decided to sell her for some reason I would not say she was Marans, maybe a Marans cross? The eggs they hatched from were nice and dark.
They might be 15 generations away from the original breeder so they are NOT Wade Jeane lines and have not been since they left his hands.
That light colored girl in the middle? she is really mossy. If it was me I would not use any of these birds. too much hidden in the wood pile there. You...
I have a pullet that looks identical to yours. Mine also was from supposed pure non-crossed FBCM. I think they call her coloring "mossy". :idunno
I'm just waiting on eggs.....
Hi all!! I just thought I'd pop on here and share that our BA was one day shy of being 22 weeks when she gave her first little egg!! In the nest bucket and all, just like a pro.
We also have one 9 week old rooster (from a different mother) who has hen-like feathering still and is uniformly dark, but it is definitely shaped like a male, has a big comb and is crowing. Yesterday, I dug into the saddle feathers and saw the beginnings of copper saddle feathers. Whenever in...
I think he's handsome too! And who knows what got into the gene pool here? Hopefully he will be a great rooster and won't "go bad", if you know what I mean.
I'm sorry. I must have misrepresented myself. I have no intentions of continuing this "line" of Marans. I'm simply using the hens for variety in the egg basket and I will use whichever roo I keep to cover my EE 's to make olivers, which are nothing but mutts anyway.
So, thanks for the...
He really does have a tail....i guess he was standing funky. At 9 weeks old all of the chicks are looking kinda scruffy with new feathers growing here and there. They are supposed to be pure...maybe he's a mutant? The eggs they came from were nice and dark.
