My Dandy lays an occasional egg that's got a soft spot in it, but never had one without a shell. (She's also never laid more than 1 egg a day) You want to make sure she doesn't get egg bound if the shells are soft or missing completely.
I'm not sure where the stitch in the ditch is to know how to explain it. I looked at my pic/diagrams and can't see where I put it. If you tell me where you see it, I can explain better. As for what I put in it. I buy the smallest diapers and cut them in half. I put the cut side towards the back...
Mostly, it's just consistency. If you do it every time they come in, then they know it's coming, and they may not ever come to like it, but they will accept it. The biggest thing is to leave it on even know they are pouting and throwing a fit. If you take it off because they're upset about it...
OK, so I've tried to make videos, but you can't see any of it unless you're in the back and the phone is on the floor shining up onto her butt from the floor nearly. I'll have to just post pics of the harness itself I guess. It looks like the first one other than the clip added for easy removal.
I would put something on them even growing. Even if it's just a sock that's cut or something to get them used to the presence. You can fine tune and go for productive outcome once they are grown, but the longer you wait to start it the longer they take to get used to the idea.
The surgical masks actually work great with chickens, and you don't wash them. Just make sure you get the ones that don't have the wire strip for the nose part, or that you pull it out before putting it on your feathered lovey.
You put it on and don't take it off when they pout or pick at it. Reward them w treats and whatever kind of other rewards they get right after you put it on. (and even while you're putting it on if you can get a helper. It gets easier when you find a method you can stick with constantly. You...
OK, so here's my recent mix. I have a salmon cat food first ingredient is salmon 1C, Waterfowl layer food 1C, Chick grower 2C, cut corn (which I have to pulverize completely for her to actually eat it) 1C. Then I mix it all together and give for about 1.5 cups of that mix each night. I started...
I guess I wasn't trying to defend myself as much as ease someone else's mind. I know she's pampered, we call her the bougie duck at home, but I would be upset if I thought someone was abusing or mistreating an animal, and I don't want anyone to feel bad about her or for her. Not for my sake, but...
I'll make a video this weekend and post it. You almost can't even see them because of her feathers. The strap is usually hidden by the first 10 minutes of having it on because she picks and combs her feathers out straight over the top of it.
She hates the grass, as well as being outside. As far as flock animal... she is pretty aggressive towards anything that moves. A neighbor's dog wanders up onto our porch occasionally, and she gets super protective and territorial. My daughter brought her dwarf lionhead bunny over and Dandy was...
OK, update to the latest harness. I've made several more of the harnesses, and I found that Walmart (or some of them anyway) have lanyards (near the key making counter) that are made of the same material as the pacifier holders, and they come in so many colors. It's also easier to use 1 solid...
OK, so I've had her on a waterfowl egg laying formula since the thread started. Full of calcium and duck goodies. Still no egg. Honestly, I'm not necessarily looking forward to eggs all over the house, but at what point should I worry?
