Well I'll throw in my 2 cents ... Sweet PDZ in the poop tray and sand in the floor of the coop and 1/2 hardware cloth to enclose the run. Two years ago I was where you are today. Looking good ... Sand mixed with a little PDZ on the floor and for the poop tray PDZ with a little sand. You won't regret it. Mine is 1 1/2 years old and my floor sand still looks new and has never been changed. Some of the PDZ will stick to the poop so your will need to add some every few...- rhoffart

Moving quail outside
My 5 coturnix were 3 weeks old yesterday. I moved them outside last night and all were doing ok today. It was there first time on wire and they don't seem to like it. They are doing a lot of sitting. I live near San Antonio 70's at night and 90's during the day. Next time I might wait till week... -
Quail and HEAT!!!!
How heat tolerant are quail? I live near San Antonio Texas and it could get to 100 plus a bunch of days in July and August. I have my first hatch in the brooder ready to go outside in a week or so. -

If y'all don't mind I'm going to jump in ... I'm reading on how chickens can get quail sick. My question can quail get chickens sick as well? It seems from all my research so far it's only chickens to quail. -

I bought a very small incubator that only holds 12 at a time. I just hatched my first and had 5 of the 12 hatch. So, 5 will be in the first pen. I have another 12 eggs going right now and will be building a second pen for them. I'm going to keep the production small. It's for meat only. Nothing... -
