They free range all day in the pond, and at night, they come home wanting a little something before they get tucked in for then night. We used to herd them back and then put a food dish in their coop to entice them. After a week or so, they just come home on their own and quack at the...
Yes, I built it. I used 2x2 inch boards for the base using cinder blocks to raise it up from the dirt. I really wished I'd have used 2x4's though it stands up well to the ducks.
The bottom, sides, and roof are all particle board painted with outdoor paint. I cut windows and stapled chicken...
That's our 8 week old. She's still a bit unsure about things. She doesn't even particularly like hanging out with her mother. We're working on her.
I have 3 eggs about to hatch in a few days, so she'll have some younger siblings this year as well.
They come waddling home around 6PM. Quacking at the back fence wanting to be fed.
They are a bit of a neighborhood fixture, so everyone loves the ducks!
Mine free range in our 3 acre pond all day. Around dusk (or a few hours before if they're impatient), they come home wanting some feed. We put the feed in their hut and they waddle in there.
This did take some training, and I'm not sure what you're doing with them during the day, but I...
During the day, they're kept outside. Temps have been in the 90's for as long as they've been alive. They've been kept in the garage at night where it might be slightly cooler (maybe mid 80's through the night). I'm not worried about it. I'm more worried about how to get them integrated with...
Haha! You guys are silly. If you look at the other pictures I posted, there is water in one of those.
Just an update, these little ones are growing like weeds! Starting to get tail feathers at just over 2 weeks?! I don't remember my others feathering so early.
Update. She was a he, and my only drake, so thank goodness he survived. Also, look what I caught today. Good thing too. I have 2 ducklings that just hatched 3 days ago.
I have no idea what they are. We have buff, rouen, peking, and black Swedish females. There is a buff male with our flock, and 2 cayuga males in the pond. Could be any combination.
Ok, RH is up to 74%, and they are back in the incubator. I took them out of the incubator when they started pipping and put them in a brooder with a light on them to keep the temp stable, because I have and auto turner in that incubator and 1 egg that still has 10 days left, so I didn't want...
I peeled back the shell that was broken and the it's a hole in the membrane. I can see their beaks and they are squeaking. I think the humidity got too low and the shells are quite hard. Here is a pic. You can see their beaks.
