Thanks for the advice and picture references.. I hope this little one is a hen lol I dont know of anyone that is going to want a gimpy silkie roo... And I already have two.. I've never had to cull before and would hate to have to start now :hit hope it pulls through ok.. It's doing this really...
Well... I only bought these intending for them to be pet quality.. I don't do any breeding. We have a rooster and if a girl goes broody, I'll give them a few eggs to hatch.. Hoping all 5 are females but I doubt i'd be so lucky. It's walking kind of funny.. Would extra toes affect quality of...
Hello all!! Just picked up a few more bbs babies and noticed a splash walking kind of funny.. Inspected it's little feet... And on the left of the picture.. is this an extra toe?.. Or deformity? Look strange to anyone else?
Jeez... I wouldnt know where to begin! My knowledge is limited and chicken genetics confuse me so! I may look into it though.. Just for a little fun
Wow!!! Mine looks just like a red pyle crossed with a splash! So strange.. I need to see how to go about breeding a red pyle to fully understand this little ones background.. We will probably never truly know :lau
I too just came across some pictures and forums of cuckoo silkies just yesterday! I had not even considered that there was such a thing! they certainly are adorable! I will have to look at the red pyle.. Interesting! Someone tagged earlier in this post has another thread looking for...
The post I made was asking how I could have possibly ended up with a splash with so much red leakage.. I purchased the hatching eggs from a lady that had only blacks blues and splashes... Others seem to think that somewhere in the lines there is partridge in it's heritage...
Interesting!!!! I just made a post asking about an interesting splash I ended up with.. Not sure if it's a roo or hen yet at just 16 weeks old, it's still growing out.. Where in florida are you? I'm in GA.. Might be interested in giving towards your project if I can get one of the offspring :D
Chicken genetics are so interesting to me!! Especially with silkies.. So much to obtain and learn! Partridge would make more sense.. It is more what I would call red than buff now that you mention!
Im still happy to have her! Even more so now.. She's so unique! And while I'm saying "she".. Does that look to be right? They are so hard to tell! I was leaning towards female because it is growing at almost half the rate of the blacks (which I'm almost certain are both cockerels) But that's all...
Very interesting! We didn't purchase for any sort of breeding.. Just gave some eggs to one of my broodies and all are pets.. I do love splash coloring and was excited to have one. This color stumped me! I am anxious to see how it fully grows out.. It has changed so much over the weeks.. It's...
All the birds I saw were splashes blues and a few blacks... I had 4 silkie eggs total and a few other breeds.. 2 hatched black and grew out black.. One hatched this cute cloud color, grew out white, started to see some splash coming through, and then a hawk got it :hit This little one hatched...
Can someone help me out with this little thing here... It hatched out solid white.. Grew in white initially.. Started seeing some black/blue specks at few weeks.. At that point I'm excited assuming it's splash.. Now at 16 weeks I'm confused lol there's all this buff coloring coming through...
