just dawned on me..once i integrate my chicks (in a few months ) what do I feed my mixed flock? right now i am feeding the big girls layena, and i'll be doing flock raiser for the chicks... do i just feed them all flock raiser and leave out oyster shells to meet calcium needs or what? put my eggs in at 7 on the 28th 47 of em. one is a double yolker which I wasn't going to set but...I paid over a buck for it and already lost one egg due to it being cracked and me not seeing it before I left sooo we'll see I know if it gets to lock down and hatching time we will most likely...- Mamahumecky

hot diggity! FINALLY our first eggs. A year of keeping chickens has finally paid off. We started chicks in GA a year ago, grew a flock up to point of lay and had to sell before we moved. well he did it... he started crowing the dummy. He can't keep his mouth shut. I'm kinda sad cause he's so sweet. Our BO is no longer a chick, he's a roo and nw have to either put him in a pot or find him a home. Just to decide which... I don't know how to process chickens so I gotta find smeone...- Mamahumecky

Think my buff Orpington is a too :0( they are keeping toasty in their straw filled coop. But they aren't laying yet and I'm going insane. This is our dear buff Orpington butter. Hasn't made a peep, well a crow to be exact. just the chucks like my other girls. I fear though that she has turned out to be a he. I can't have a too so if indeed my thoughts are correct ill have to either find him a new home or put him in a pot...- Mamahumecky

yeah no i doubt they'd own up to it. just is the only explanation that makes sense. we searched our yard and my dogs were crated over night like they always are so there wasn't anything in my yard to do the damage to the bird and it was rather close to the fence so... i just wish things weren't...- Mamahumecky

so I think the chick got into the neighbors yard. then their dog killed it and they threw it over the fence! I went out this am to take care of chickens and there it was with bite holes in it about 5 ft from the fence =o( All the others are doing well just have a sad little boy- Mamahumecky

so so sad. I went to move chicks to the big coop today finally! One was dead in the brooder, it was fine last night but today no dice. Then went to make sure the babies went to the coop and one was just gone...no sign of it any where. My 3 yr old little boy's chick was a buff orpington x barred...- Mamahumecky
