    Lonely Call duck

I bought a pair of pastel calls 4 years ago. They were adults, so I am not sure how old they were. The Male passed away two weeks ago. The female has been calling for him a lot, and seems to want my company. I think she is lonely. I put my two rouen pullets in with her, hoping they would keep...

    Keet Color Question

Thanks! I have gotten quite a few recessives this year. I think I may even have a couple of chocolates and possibly a buff. Yesterday they hatched out a very light keet, that I think may be porcelain. These new colors are a nice surprise, especially since I wasn't planning on hatching this year...

    Keet Color Question

Can anyone tell me what color these two keets are? This one has brown stripes on his head, but the stripes on the back are blue. The one on the left with the white wings - is he Royal Purple? I started with all coral blue and pearl grays. Last year I hatched some and one was...

The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

No duckling for me this year. Of the six eggs, 1 was a dud, and the other 5 quit or ended up with blood rings. I am sad, but wasn't expecting her to go broody and wasn't planning on hatching this year, so it is ok. Hopefully next year she will hatch a few .

The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

This is a great thread! I haven't gotten all the way through it yet, but have a question. I have a call duck that is sitting on 5 eggs. Is it ok to leave the drake in the same pen with her and the ducklings when they first hatch, or is it safer to remove him for a while? I only have the 2 of...

Can someone tell me if these are jakes or jennies?

Well, I am not happy they are BB as they were supposed to be heritage birds, but I am very happy that they are all Jennies. I knew they were all the same sex, but had no others to compare them too. Is it possible to keep BB birds as pets?

Can someone tell me if these are jakes or jennies?

Also, what breed are they? Bronze? Three are about 12 weeks old. The 4th is 10 weeks I think. This next guy is a BR X ? that I hatched out. He is ~2 weeks younger than the rest, and quite a bit smaller. The others I bought at the feed store to keep him company. The feed store told...

Funniest Things A City Slicker Has Ever Said To You?

I just saw this thread and had to add my story. A few years ago the police came to my parents house next door, and asked if they could catch a "bull" that was loose at the neighbors house, where they were having a party. My mother called me to go catch it. I was told the "bull" was aggressive...

    Broody guinea question

Just wanted to give you an update on how things went. About a week after they went broody, and me unable to lure them out with treats, I opened the egg door (behind them in the pics), and was able to shoo them out (hissing and snapping the whole time), long enough to mark the eggs. Twenty...
