I guess I'm going back to crumbles. My birds are going to starve to death!! They STILL have NOT touched the pellets on the ground!! Thank you for all your responses!
After 4 years of using laying crumbles I changed to laying pellets of the exact same brand. They took awhile before they wanted to eat them real good and DID quit laying for about 4 days but...they now eat the pellets out of my automatic feeder but seem to eat it real slow. ALSO they still spill...
I have kept my chickens on TSC laying crumbles for 3 years with great results and egg production but...am having trouble with feed breaking down in bags. QUESTION: how much "shock" should my flock feel if I change from granule to pellet in the same brand feed? How long should pellets last verses...
I do recall they were on the bottom of the pallet in the store when i bought them. maybe there stock had not been rotated properly. If I change to laying pellets from laying crumbles baybe that will solve future problems.
I have been using Tractor supply Co. granule HEN feed in 50# bags for over 3 years with no problems. I'm in deep East Texas and it has been hitting the 100's already. I have ALWAYS bought 2 bags at a time and keep it stored in my shop where I keep classic cars. It is NOT climate controlled but...
I picked up my feeder in the coop couple days ago and a tiny "field" mouse came running out. One of my 3 year old Domonique grabbed it by the head and started running around with it. 6 white leghorns and one other Domonique franticly chased her around trying to take it from her. They actually...
I only have 2 domonique hens and 6 white leghorns. they are all about 4-5 years old now. My domoniques have not laid in 6 weeks and my white leghorns are laying only 1-2 a day. can I stop feeding expensive laying feed now and maybe just feed them scratch? Looks like they are just going to become...
Don't know if this helps but...I build a lot of concrete benches and other yard items from plastic molds. IALWAYS spray PAM on the molds very heavy and never have trouble removing the mold from the dried concrete.
I have mostly white leghorns and will be starting their third year laying. they presently are recovering from their 1st molt but...My feed prices are going up! I have been using Lone Star Brand 18% protein and they love it. 50# sack has gone to $19 a bag from around $14. I can find much cheaper...
About 2 weeks ago my white leghorns started moulting and out of nine birds I am lucky if I get one egg a day! I went 4 days straight with NO EGGS!! Bad timing right here before Thanksgiving. How long will this go on? They didnt molt last year. These birds might be 3 years old now. My 2 domonique...
thank you all. I guess i'll keep it in there for them. I realize a whiteleghorn chicken won't lay eggs for ever but...about what is their lifespan?? Little off my original thread but just got to thinking?
Birds are about 2 years old and laying well. I have always left a bowl of grit and a seperate bowl of oyster shell out 24 hours a day. In last 2-3 months they hardly touch the grit but will eat the shell like candy most of the time. Shells on eggs are very good and strong. white leghorns mostly...
i did have a domonique on the nest the other day and continued to peck me and would not let me gather from under her. First time that has happened. Egg under the wing might be the answer? I did not know they could or would do that!
Yes I know they don't have teeth. hah! The nests are side by side and they are milk crates. I thought more about it and maybe one hen doesn't like it and she "scratches" it out of there. and maybe another thinks it somehow came out of her nest and she "scratched" it back into the nest? these...
very strange happening in my nesting boxes. I have 6 white leghorns and 3 Domaniques. All are about 2 years old now and lay very well. recently they started laying only about 5-6 a day instead of the usual 9. thought it was the heat or molting. Thought I might have a snake even though I have not...
No stupid questions, I appreciate your help. I do have 3 nests for 9 birds. They can't seem to decide which nests to use. One day all in one nest One day all in one nest but a diffrent one! One day might be scattered in all 3 nests?? No real consistancy.
