We used that expanding foam stuff at home depot for the cracks and went back with a razor blade and cleaned it up. The chickens havent even noticed or bothered it. I think they only really get into things during the day, and since my girls free range all day they spend their energy in the yard...
I HOPE im in the right section. If not im sorry. So i do have a roost built and they all use it except 2. I have a smaller silkie pullet who cant reach it yet and a silkie cockerel who has a birth defected foot. His foot makes him unable to roost with the others. I dont mind for now because he...
i have linoleum in my coop (3 hens, 2 cockerels, 5 pullets) with deep bedding. They dont really slip because of rain BUT when they get really excited (usually when i let them out every morning to free range for the day) they do seem to slide around a bit. Also my hens (big girls as i call them)...
My hen had a curling tail too. It eventually poofed up. BUT in ur pic of the 3 hanging the 1 closes to the wall has a mean "cheese curl" feather. So im guessing that ones a roo. Good luck
Me too. For now id keep him isolated and have the least amount of noise/excitement around him as possible. Anything that alerts him and causes him to jerk his neck may make it worse im imagining. Like us with a stiff neck, if we look a certain way quickly it hurts like hell.
This is my little buddy. Roughly 5 months or so. You can see his waddles and comb. Thats the only way i could tell. That and my other 2 silkies are hens so the differences are very apparent when side by side.
Wow. Thats scary! Im so sorry this is happening to your roo. If a vet doesnt specify in chickens you can always try an exotic vet or a local vet that has any experience with birds. Just a thought.
Alas i do love my pets to death =/. I do the same thing to my cat. Ill cut their treats down alot and were giving them oyster shells starting tomorrow. Im hoping this will help her. I love her and i love giving her treats but not if its hurting her.
Mine is still young and has a birth defected foot, so im not sure if all silkie roos are like him. That being said my little buddy is too sweet to stop anything. I have an ameracauna (prob spelled wrong) roo that were depending on to keep things in check. Just hoping the day doesnt come where he...
The egg song in nesting box and walking around its softer but same noises my ladies make before they lay. Funny thing is she only sings the egg song when shes on another hens egg. Could she be broody over other hens eggs?
She doesnt walk like a penguin, she is head of the pack so no one really bothers her, she sits in the box and makes sounds like she is laying but nothing comes out. Otherwise shes acting normal but does have some diarrhea (can be due to tomatoes and juicy fruit snacks she gets though). Her...
My other 2 that are old enough to lay are very faithful at laying daily. Ones a red sex link (or rhode island red i cant remember) and the other is a mix but looks like a barred rock. I am getting worried because Dusty keeps laying in the nesting box so shes trying but nothing comes out
We got her very recently. Roughly a month ago if that. We feed her the same thing as my other chickens who lay everyday. Egg laying crumble, a high protien mix, and cracked corn mixed together. They also get daily snacks 4/5x a day. Snacks being anything like= popcorn, yogurt, tomatoes...
So my EE Dusty laid wonky eggs for about a week or 2 (as in oblong), which i dont mind A+ for effort. She has ALWAYS laid in her nesting box after the first egg (i put her first one in it and shes done well ever since). Well all of a sudden we were sitting with the girls and on the ground i saw...
