I have 2 Blue Swedish girls, about 2 years old, but only get about 1 egg a day. Not sure who isn’t laying, but I’d like to be getting more eggs every day.
Does someone have a lonely duck, or maybe a pair that need rehomed? Open to all breeds, but no drakes. Happily willing to pay a rehoming...
They have a huge area inside an electric fence, but not quite "free range." I let them out on the weekends sometimes but they don't really go far.
I don't see eggs anywhere else.
I don't think they are hiding them. I let them out at 6:45am and they seemed to have usually laid their eggs by then.
Is there some supplement or something they may be short on? I feed them flock raiser, they have tons of space (though not techniquely free range) and get tons of lovely scraps...
I have a Pekin and 2 blue Swedish, they are all about a year and a half old. They started molting in July, they seem done now, but still no eggs. Will they start laying at all before winter? I'm in Oregon so mild weather for the most and better part.
So I'm dying to share a bit of the duck struggle I'm going through. One of my Perkins started limping a week ago and now can barely get around. I've done epson salt soaks, and put her in a warm tub, but don't see signs of bumble foot or a break. Long story shot, I have an appointment at the vet...
Great advice all thank you. I'm getting the hang of it but there isn't much fight in her still. I'm careful to make sure that I hold her tongue and slide whatever I give her along the top bill to avoid her airways. I think holding her between my legs is a great idea. I already feed them...
Thanks all. Lily is drinking a little but not eating. I've been giving her water with honey in it, I'll do some acv soon. She is still very wobbly and likes sitting on her heating pad. I've been able to get the evening pills down and with the weekend she will have a lot of attention and both...
I baked mine first so it was soft. Just cut in half bake at 350 until it's easy to pierce with a fork. Let it cool down completely before you throw it out to them! Mine gobbled it down.
First duck eggs last week, lost my first duck this week. Already posted the details elsewhere but so upset :( if you ever think "eh, it's good enough" about your predator protection, think again. The guilt of losing a baby and knowing you could have done a bett job. It's hard :hit
Modifications are made!
They have a 1/4 of a pill that is "bird ibuprofen" as the vet explained it. The other 2 are Huge antibiotics. I also have a topical that is much easier to apply. They are quarantined with their heating pad from the brooder to help keep them warm.
Ugh. My post just disappeared to add insult to injury.
Last night something got passed my electric fence and killed my beatiiful Cayuga, Cala. She had the most beautiful feathers.
2 more of my ducks are wounded and I have 3 pills I have to give them 2 times a day. I can't do it by myself...
I finally got my first duck eggs this week! I have one of six ducks laying almost daily already. I'm assuming it's one my blue Swedish because it's nit black so not the cayugas and it's barely larger that my (hopefully last) store bought chicken eggs, so I'm thinking smallish for the Pekins...
I need a good idea for an easy ramp to help my ducks in and out of their kiddie pool. One of my Pekins keeps getting stuck in the pool so I have to keep checking on her and then get her out which can get messy.
My friend has been making her own dog food for a long time and so when I got a puppy I started that too. I don't really measure, throw it all in the crock pot, and freeze about 4 days worth and keep, out 4 days worth. I find longer than that it doesn't smell great so I throw it out to the ducks...
