Hi Cailee, Welcome to Backyard Chickens! I am sorry to hear that he is sick. Does he have bubbles in his eyes? If so he probably has a respiratory infection.
Thank you. I just want them to be safe so I was willing to house them separately for a year if needed. I will probably incorporate them at around 6-7 months then. Thank you again for your help.
I never had a problem with my dog or cats getting to them. My cats and dogs have been raised around them and love them though. The dog gives them kisses. If you are worried about them getting hurt you could wrap it in 1 inch or 1/2 inch wire to prevent anything from happening. The good thing...
If you have a large dog cage that would probably work well. I took a bunch of large cardboard boxes, zip tied them together, placed it on a tarp and put wire over the top for a large brooder for my 8 ducklings. I took the top flaps of the boxes, faced them downwards, folded them outwards, and...
I just use large rocks for the ducks to get into and out of the pool. I used to have brick steps for them. So far there have been no problems with my chickens who are housed with the ducks. I hope this helps.
Did you check her for lice or mites? If that's the problem I would give her iron rich food or molasses in water to try to revive her levels, bathe her to get off any large quantities of lice or mites and then dust her. Check the dusts to see how old the chickens must be in order to dust them...
Hi Miss Lydia, That is a great idea for feeding them. Thank you for the suggestion. At what age do they mature? The only thing I have to base the time of maturity off of is that they start laying at around a year. I wasn't sure if that was when they matured or if it was merely because most...
Hi peachyduckies, thank you for your response. I was wondering when the geese would be mature enough to breed in case the drakes tried to mate with the geese. I know that they start laying at a later age then ducks and chickens but I wasn't sure if that was representative of the age that geese...
Hi everyone,
I am getting my first goslings soon. I got females only to avoid aggression during breeding season and am going to use them to guard my chickens and ducks. I have two drakes though and keep reading that geese and ducks can mate. Since geese don't start laying until a year of age...
What would cause it to be aggressive? It has never mounted one of my girls in the water and the girls always run from it when it attempts to mount it. There is no reason for the aggression. None of the ducks challenge Venus and neither do the chickens( including my roo). Comet does the head...
About 3 - 3 1/2 months ago I bought 3 muscovy females after finding out that two of my four ducklings were drakes. I think that Venus is a girl but am not sure. A little info on Venus: She was born in October 2016, she weighs 6.6lbs, she keeps mounting all of my ducks(except boys), I do not know...
Gout is more swelling. If you look up gout in chickens then you can see pictures and see if that is what it seems that he has. Does he appear to have a lump on that leg? Maybe he hurt his leg and it healed improperly? Can you get a picture?
My rooster did fine over the winter. I had a set of brothers(they were Jersey giant crosses) that didn't mind the snow and cold one bit and always went outside. We kept plenty of bedding in the coop for them and made sure there were no drafts in the coop but or else they were happy. I don't...
You can look up gout in chickens and see if that seems similar. Is the leg swollen or thick? If it's swollen you might want to soak it in a warm epsom salt bath. I hope he gets better soon.
