I have 44 hens and 2 roosters and somewhere in the bunch, I have a chicken (hopefully only one) that has decided that it is a good idea to eat eggs. I feed them layer crumble and supplement that with oyster shells (allot which they gobble down like candy) to give them plenty of calcium. I...
That's good to know. I will get some fans for the chickens.
Here is a pic of my coop and you will see how the screens are all across the front (FACING WEST where the rain comes in)
Thanks,
Do any of you put fans in your chicken coops when the weather gets hot. We have been having a heat wave and my chickens are panting all of the time. I was thinking of putting a fan or two in the coop for them. Is this a common practice or does it create a problem (drafts, etc.)?
The ironic...
I have 4 week old keets that are now with 5 and 7 week old chicks in a nursery in my chicken coop. They have been there for about a week now and I am wondering at what point can I release them into the "general population". My chickens are now 19 weeks old and I have 36 of them (34 hens and 2...
Hi All,
I want to save up a weeks worth of eggs to hatch so I don't have a couple of eggs hatching every day for days if I were to put them in the incubator as I get them, but I know that the eggs need to be kept cool (around 55°) while they are being stored before incubation.
How do you all...
Yesterday I made a "nursery" in the chicken coop for the chicks and keets and put them in it. I watched them and they are getting along great together. They even sleep together. I will keep am eye on them, but it looks like they will do fine in there until I can let them in with the older...
Thanks...You should see his Mohawk now...it is allot bigger! I seem to have a few other cockerels in the bunch of younger chicks. They all look really good.
I have a 16X16 covered pen for my poults. I also clipped their wings so they won't get the idea of flying. I would love to have them...
I have 1 Narragansett and 5 Royal Palm turkey poults and they have outgrown their brooder. I was wondering if I could put them outside in their pen at this point. They are fully feathered and I can provide heat and shelter for them.
Let me know what you think these are the first turkeys that...
I have a space issue in my brooders and I was wondering if I could combine my chicks and guinea keets.
I have 2 Brabanter chicks that are 37 days old that are with 8 other 24 day old Brabanter chicks. I would like to put them together with my 9, 18 day old guinea keets and move them to the...
Yes I got mine from April at H and H Poultry. She has been such a pleasure to deal with and so much help. I would recommend anyone to her. I got my Brabanter eggs and Guinea eggs from her. They are all turning out beautifully.
I have an 8 day comparison of my "Mohawk" cockerel. It is...
I talked to my breeder and she got her first Brabanters from Ideal. She said:
"That is where I got my first ones. I ordered some more this year. I just got them in. I am going to have to do some line breeding but that is all I can do because Ideal is the only other source, besides me, that I...

I originally had 5 each of the following, but I sold one of each to make room fotr the new ones or the guineas...I have to think about who goes where (I only have 1/2 an acre and it is getting a bit crowded with pens and coops:
Silver Laced Wyandottes, Delawares, Light Brahmas, Buttercups...
I am so sorry to hear about your coop invasion. I would be devastated if that happened to me. I have 34 17week old heritage and rage breeds and will be adding the CBs to the group (10), unless I can build them their own coop and pen. I am thinking I might want to raise the CBs. I really like...
They are sweet! Is that yellow one in the back a CB also? All of mine are mottled. The small ones of mine are starting to get their crests. The one in the "Mohawk" picture above has at least doubled his crest size since that pic. This is the first CBs that I have hatched. When I saw pics of...
