    Plz Help!! Incubation Question!!

I keep both of mine out the whole 21 days. If I have trouble getting the humidity up during lockdown, I cut 6 strips about an inch wide and 3 inches long from a babies pull up, moisten with warm water and put in the bator under the small holes so i can add warm water as needed.

    impatient egg daddy

I'm not sure about the membrane on this breed, but it can take up to 24 hours after the external pip for the the chick to zip and pop on out. They are absorbing the remaining egg yoke and the blood vessels are drying up. I would not help them out unless it has been more than 24 hours since it...

    hen not turning her eggs?

Can you see the air sac at large end of the egg? When I candle mine I can see a well defined air sac at the large end and the mass/chick does look like it is in the middle of the egg, but as it grows it will fill out the middle and small end. By day 18 about 1/3 of the egg is taken up by the...

    Lockdown help ASAP!!

Once they have internally pipped, you can hear very faint peepn coming from the egg. If I tap on my bator I can sometimes hear them. Once you have them in lockdown, don't open the bator unless you have an emergency, it lets out alot of the humidity and can cause the chicks to shrink wrap...

    Lockdown help ASAP!!

Go ahead and put them in lockdown. You need to get the humidity up so they dont shrink wrap when they externally pip. A couple of days early is not going to hurt them. By this time they have lost enough moister that the air cells should be fine. Good Luck on your hatch and keep us posted.

chicks not hatching when almost fully developed

I keep my plugs out through the whole incubation, never put them in. I have read on a couple threads that in the case of having the humidity to high the first 18 day, during the lockdown period they do not raise the humidity to normal hatch levels. It's seems to help with the babies not...

chicks not hatching when almost fully developed

I too had this problem my first 2 hatchess. Through trial and error I figured out that my humdity was to high the first 18days. I started using the dry incubating method and my hatches have inproved. I only add 1/3 cup warm water if the humidity drops below 20%, it normal stays between 25-30%...

do ready to hatch eggs look transparent?

If they are ready to hatch in the next day or to, then about 2/3 of the egg should be really dark and you shouldnt be able to see anythng but a dark blob. The larger end should have a good size air cell.

    Lock down date!?

Lock down at 8am on day 18. I set mine on Apr 26th and I'm going to lockdown at 11am on Monday the 14th. From what I understand in reading the different threads if you set them on a wed then they are due on a wed. You set yours on a Tuesday so yours should be due on Tuesday May 15. I would...

    Help! First Hatching - DISASTER

If you have a brooder set up that will keep the babies warm, I would take them away from the mom. My first broody tried to peck her babies to death when they hatched. I'm thankful I had moved her and was actually there when the started hatchn or she would have killed all of them. She was...

How long until they fully hatch?

Yes that is perfectly normal. It can take up to 24 hours for them to hatch once they externally pip. They have to absorb the egg yoke. Mine externally pip and then nothing at all for about 14/16 hours and then they zip on out in no time. Good Luck on your babies.....

    Candling Question

Congrats. Seeing movement is better than see veins, even though the go hand in hand. I have 2 bantam eggs that are on day 9 and they are moving all over the place. Best of luck that your one left hatches. Keep us posted.

    Chick dry but not fluffy

I'm glad the fluffed up without you having to bathe them. If you do have to just use warm water, no soap or anythng like that. Mine dont dry and fluf up real well in my bator, so I take mine out and put in the brooder under a heat lamp and the normal dry in no time. Congrats. How about some...

    Candling Question

If you hold the egg longways and put the light at the large end where the air cell is, it is easier to see the veining in the egg. If you could do that and post a pic it would be easier for us to give you a better guess on if it is a viable egg and also how far along.

    Chick dry but not fluffy

Hey, congrates on your hatch. What you have is a sticky chick, it has goo on it from hatching that dries hard. They need to be washed off in warm water and put under the heat lamp. You may have to do wash it a couple times before you get off all the goo. Good Luck.

    when to toss the clears?

I would take them out now. If they are clear at day 13 then they are not fertile and you run the risk of them exploding and contaminating your growing embryos. Good Luck with your babies.

    Candling Question

It does look like it may be further along then egg 1. Can you see the embryo moving in the egg when you candle it?
