Thank you, I did separate her from the others last night, because she was the one who had been looking sick, and unfortunately she died a few hours later. And also sadly upon checking on the others this morning I found another had died in the night.
I can definitely post pictures, although I'm...
I dont know... How could I tell? She hasn't been laying eggs for a while now and I always assumed it's because she is old (especially for an ISA Brown).
...warm, dim place.
Can you post pictures?
What are you feeding them?
Is it eating?
Is it drinking?
Does its poop look normal?
If this is a hen, check the vent to see if you can feel an egg. If it's pooping, it's not eggbound, but if not, it could be. That must be treated ASAP so she...
I have 4 Guinneas and 36 chickens 2 Roosters and 2 baby roosters...this is the only bird that looks like this! I have removed her from the flick.... the white stuff is Diatomaceous earth mixed with wood ash.... I have sprayed all coops with Permethrin spray.... any other ideas?
...But you can try the Baytril if these other suggestions don't effect any improvement.
Just because she laid an egg doesn't mean she isn't eggbound. Often, two eggs are involved, and she could still be struggling to get the second one out. Her poop would not necessarily be normal, though. But...
...drooping. Shes not standing up and turning around in her isolation pen, she has stayed frozen all day.
She laid an egg today - so isn’t eggbound, surely?
She only eats if I hand feed her.
Her poo is normal, not runny, or bloody coloured.
I gave her coccidiocis treatment and a...
...more feathers after today.
All of the hens are at least 3-1/2 years old - the white hen and rooster are 4-1/2 and a couple might be a year older than that.
No poopy butt or eggbound behavior, everyone is eating.
Should I just keep assuming this is from the heat and molting?
Thanks
Shannon
I tried to get a picture, by pulling her tongue forward there’s a bit of mucus like white stuff and I can see the little valve thing opening and closing, I don’t see an obvious obstruction. At first I was thinking eggbound, but now it seems like the issue has to be something in the throat/crop?
Update: I noticed she’s missing them all under her chin area as well… only my one Lavender Orpington (23wks) has shown any sort of aggression but it’s mostly just puffing up and running and her but she’ll still go by her.
Should I put the orpington in a kennel in the run during the day or wait...
I wouldn't worry as an injury to the comb will bleed a lot, so obviously that hasn't happened. When a hen goes into moult, or feels a bit down for whatever reason, for example mite infestation, her comb will lose a lot of colour and shrink a little.
...I checked the coop cam later that night and she was sleeping in the nesting box so I decided to check on her today in case she may be eggbound or something. She laid her egg like normal and seems completely fine and then I realized the bald spot and comb. There’s no blood and hasn’t been. It...
...It happens, but as my granddaughter say, “well that is tough, but now we can add chicks.
I have had chickens for decades, never had an eggbound chicken or any disease. Not that I don’t believe people on here that do, but people tend to post about trouble, which in turn makes it look like...
Welcome To BYC
I'm sorry for your losses, if you lose another, it would be a very good idea to investigate further to find out what may be causing the deaths so frequently. Your state lab can do a necropsy and give you a report of their findings or if you are up to it, you can do your own...
We have had 2 chickens die unexpectedly in the past week. One of them was laying very large eggs and we think she got eggbound. (We didn't know who was laying what at this point) The other one was laying very normal sized eggs. We thought she might have been going broody because she was...
...bully and always has something to say to somebody, so it was obvious she’s not feeling well right away.
Was hoping she was just a little eggbound, but no results after a 25 min epsom salt soak. Saw a bit of snotty looking blood in the bath water, so considering starting Corid.
Her crop is...
Im not suer how its supposed to feel, but it feels fine? Its soft. Im not sure how to check if a crop is empty, but that area also feels soft. I attached images of her rn @CCsGarden
I really dont know whats going on with my chicken.
1) What type of bird, age, a nd weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others)
Leghorn, 26-20 weeks, feels normal.
2) What is the behavior, exactly?
She's been sitting down, tail down, and doesn't really eat or...
