I have a heating plate that looks like a computer monitor.
Right now one is in front of it and two are behind it. Between the heater and the brooder wall.
The heater gets warm so there is heat on the backside too. Maybe it radiates more heat from the front but I don't know.
It may be just fancy...
I would go for 3 basic features:
1) Auto temperature control
2) Auto humidity control
3) Auto egg turning
Of course you also want a clear lid so you can see inside.
My current incubator has #1 and #3 and I really wish it had Auto Humidity Control.
I am on day 20 of hatching and I am really...
I am hatching. I recently lost an absolutely awesome rooster. He was the alpha rooster.
I took 12 eggs which were already collected and put them in the incubator. 2 of the turned out to be bad and got thrown out within first few days.
I am hoping to get at least one, perhaps two boys from this...
bcm? Maybe it's just me but I think it is much better to spell out the breed. It took me somewhere near 30 seconds before figuring out bcm is probably Black Copper Maran.
When I have to decode acronyms, I lose interest in the post.
Next day (today) in the morning I found a third chick.
I decided to move all 3 into a brooder box.
They are doing fine. Eating and drinking and hurdling together in front of the heat plate.
No other chicks have hatched yet. I am a little disappointed but it is day 20.
I should see the rest...
I did that a few times and the girls were fine in the morning, but I also left one of the girls out one time and found her half eaten in the morning.
I had almost 20 chickens at the time and it was difficult to check who's in the coop, as the coop only has a chicken door and a ventilation...
I had a few Plymouth Barred Rock roosters and they are great. I had one which I treated for infection so he got a lot of interaction with me for a couple of weeks and was an absolute sweetheart after that. Very docile and friendly. He would come right up to me whenever I showed up in the...
Don't feel too bad. You lost the chicken lottery.
I've been there. I remember getting 7 rooster out of 9. Then ordering 12 female chicks, and getting 13, 7 of which were boys.
I think I had a hatching of 10 and got only 1 female.
In the end, I was so defeated that I decided to only buy pullets...
Incubating for the second time. My first was two years ago. With dumb beginner's luck, my first attempt was 100% successful. 12 eggs resulted in 12 chicks. First time around, when I saw a chick hatch, I removed it and placed it in a brooding box. Also removed the egg shells.
This time, I had 2...
I had a fox kill my rooster and then drag him under the coop, which sits on cinder blocks.
Per my research, foxes will cache their kill and come back for it later.
The attack happen in the afternoon, in broad daylight.
Wouldn't it be nice if original posters came back and "closed the loop"?
We are all interested as to the outcome when someone makes a post which is about an unresolved situation.
I just searched this cross and found this thread.
Since the last post is almost 2 years old, could someone do an update please?
I am interested in their disposition, their size, egg color and size as well as egg production.
My idea/intent was to use a Ameraucana rooster with a Light Brahma...
