This was my first time to the swap, and I enjoyed it... I ended up buying the first thing I saw- an adorable LAMB! Of course my family is now teasing me about going ot a chicken swap and coming home wiht a sheep, lol. He is doing very well, and our llama is already claiming him as "his baby"...
We built these racks from a design that the Oregon Fryer Commision used to use. This rack had 15 birds on it. It slow cooks for about 2 hours, and we turn them and brush them with melted butter as they cook. We also put a special rub on them, and it turns out fabulous! We have 4 racks and can...
I had hoped to get a pic of one of my adult layers with these guys, but it just was not in the cards last night. They are bigger than my heavy layers. I only have 2, and this is my first experience with meat birds. The neighbors bought them as "cute chicks for easter" for their kids....then...
So, our neighbor gave us 2 chickens recently... it was one of those "they were so cute, I had to get them for the kids for Easter...." then they got big, messy, and smelly... so Ricco and Scissors came to our house, and now they are giant white blobs waddling around the pastures. It has been...
Awesome! One more question- How loing did it take you to do the plans on the sketch up from google? I downloaded it today and have een playing with it, but find it was much quicker to draw it on paper, lol.
I don't have to worry about neighbors or city requirements, we are outside the city limits and have 3 acres. Not sure yet how many birds we will have, but am glad to hear that we will have ample room. we had them together this year and used a section of our barn that is 8X24 and had a 10by20 run...
ok- we drew up plans for hte new coop and run. the building will have 2 sections- one for banties, and one for large breeds... the banty area will be 4x10 with a 10x10 run. The large breed area will be 10x15 with a 10x20 run.... How many birds can this accommodate roughly? and we will also free...
when ours were getting too big we used 4 alumninum framed window screens and ductaped them togheter to make a frame around them, and it made the box taller....
After checking out the pics on the large coop pages, and some of the fabulous coops on individual BYC pages- we have an idea now of what we want. Went out and did some measuring last night- I will be able to put it behind our existing barn. We are going to go with 10X30 with a 10X30 run behind...
Have you thought about screen door screen? also there is a roll of some sort of wire cloth designed fo covering gutters and it is 4 inches wide and comes in a roll...
I am contemplating a new coop/building...and am thinking if I am gonna do it, I am gonna DO IT, lol. So, my thinking is I would like to have a building about 10X24 and have part of it be my tack room , a central entryway with a sink, etc... and then coop on the other end...Need ideas, so tell me...
You would be better off to put the stall mats down on the bare ground, rather than over top of pallets. I have some strips of rubber matt through my run, and it is easy to clean- as for rodents- yikes! I am just getting rid of that problem! Our barn that our birds are housed in is bare dirt...
I am searching for any former members of the Oregon Fryer Growers Comission or anyone actually that may have knowledge of where to obtain the "poultry smoke salt rub" that was developed and sold by the association. For years my FIL and DH have cooked chicken for big parties, etc and used that...
I bought from someone on here with an excellent success rate, and hatch rate.... I would buy from them again because of that. I am new at this, and have much to learn on the hatching end of things...
I got a dozen BCM eggs.... There were a few broken upon arrival, thanks to the PO, I am sure... I let them set for about 6 hours at room temp before putting them under my broody hen.... I had one chick hatch, the rest were all bad, and never even formed... So- should I have let them rest longer...
