I mix my own scratch and then ferment it with kefir as my starter. I feed this as the primary ration to my flock. They free range all day and that foraging seems to cover any deficiencies in my ration if there are any. My chickens do really well this way and it is cheaper. I buy a totes of wheat...
Cool. I had plans for a high volume light blue egg layer before we got Mareks. That put the brakes on things for a while. We are all recovered now but I am not taking in any outside birds right now because if bird flu. Maybe someday. Good luck with your breed.
I only have speckled sussex. They are the best chickens I have ever had. Sweet, inquisitive, solid layers, good foragers, and absolutely stunning to look at. You won’t regret getting them.
Well here is a strange update. Both cocks tails straightened out over time and I can no longer see or feel any bend in the tail. Maybe it was an injury or something. Anyway I will update of any sign if wry tail returns. As for now my apologies to McMurray they all seem fine and are beautiful.
In my office park a new building was built on some of the new lots. I asked the builder what they were doing with their scrap and pallets. Be said I could have all I wanted and he had four other sites!!!
