    Two Roosters, what to do.

I got a smaller 2nd chicken coop yesterday and will put it in a separate fenced in pen. I will put one Rooster and 2 girls. The coop is small. If he over breeds them I will put them back with the flock. If I end up with more roosters. maybe i'll try to move the girls back to the big coop and...

    Two Roosters, what to do.

Thank you all. I do have some hens that are 3 years old that the rooster is with. I think I'm going to get a small coop for the other rooster and keep him in there. I did butcher one rooster last year. I didn't like doing it but he was really mean attacked me all the time so that made it...

    Two Roosters, what to do.

I have two roosters and 12 hens. The roosters are young just 8 months. I noticed when one rooster is breeding a hen , the other comes over , tries to push him off then jumps on. Needless to say the girls are hating this. I don't want them to start getting hurt. I want to keep a rooster to help...

    roosters and hens

They are 6 months or so. I have older hens that do put them in their place. My winters get bad , but I wouldn't leave him out there at night. only the day They are breeding the hens. I would love love two separate flocks and two separate coops and pens. Its just I have already spent so much...

    roosters and hens

The only reason I have two roosters is because that was just the luck of the draw. I incubated 15 eggs and I was lucky that only 2 are roosters. I could get rid of one but they are both so beautiful and no fighting yet. This may be a dumb question but what is the best way to separate them...

    roosters and hens

I have 12 hens and two roosters. The roosters just started to chase the girls. Do you think I need more hens? I don't want my girls to start going bald backs. that happened with the last rooster, he was mean so I got rid of him. The 2 roosters are not fighting yet, hopefully it stays that way...

Broody hens taking up space in nesting boxes

Thanks. I did move them into a large dog crate inside the coop. They seem very content and relaxed in there.

Broody hens taking up space in nesting boxes

I have two broody hens and 4 nesting boxes. My other hens seem to stop laying when the others are broody. What would be better? Add more nesting boxes? Move the broodies? Or just leave alone and they will eventually use the unoccupied nests. Just started so I got 19 days to go.

    Outdoor run

I don't want to leave my chicks inside all day, but I can't let them free range because I already lost two. I feel so stupid that I didn't stop letting them out after I lost the first one. Anyways I have a decent size outdoor run that is completely covered in welded wire on the sides and chicken...

    Getting new chicks safe.

I have about 4 caves I call them made out of cut down tree limbs. They hang out in there all the time. But I lost another baby today. I'm not letting anyone out of the covered run except when I'm home, until they are bigger or I come up with a better plan. I believe it has to be the hawk...

    Getting new chicks safe.

They are 3 1/2 weeks old. The problem is I have to work all day. So if I separate them they don't have access to get in and out of the coop until I get home. And if I close them in the pen , then the other girls can't get in and out. I'm thinking about making another entrance and splitting the...

    Getting new chicks safe.

I'm not sure what to do. I hatched 11 chicks and two broody hens have taken them in as their own. I have 8 full grown hens. I let all my chickens free range. The moms bring the chicks out everyday and show them how to scratch and find food and so on. I lost one chick to a hawk so now I think I...

Moving incubator eggs to a broody hen

Yes they are all my eggs. Busy Rooster. Can one hen raise all 15? 21 days will be this coming Saturday. I thought I would put 4 fertilized eggs under her on Wed, then as the others hatch in the incubator I'll slip them under her. I will have the brooder ready incase she doesn't take them. But I...
