The dark chick has dark gray legs and a totally flat comb at this point with absolutely no bumps or ridges, so I'm not even sure what comb type that will be.
The buff actually has 5 full toes on one foot with one of those toes having 2 tips. Guess maybe that's actually 6 toes with 2 of them...
Those 2 silkies in the pic are the only 2 that I already know. The other 2 I'm not sure on because the coloring doesn't match the hatchery possibilities according to the pics I've managed to find online. The buff chick has all of the silkie characteristics except for the black skin, which is...
I got 4 new bantams yesterday out of a mixed bantam bin. Only possibilities according to the hatchery's website are Mille Fleur or Porcelain d'Uccle, white Silkie, Golden or Silver Seabright, and Silver Duckwing, Brown, or Red Pyle OEGB. The 2 light chicks with black skin are definitely my...
Thanks for your reply, and that's what I'm thinking too. I don't want her to get used to inside warmth, and I also don't want her pecked out by the others if she's separated too long. In the coop, I've always used pine shavings until just last month when our temps went so low and a couple local...
I found my tiny bantam d'Uccle huddled down on the snow yesterday showing signs of hypothermia. I immediately brought her inside. I put her in a laundry basket by the heat vent with a hot water bottle, towels, and a small dish of drinking water. After several hours she was keeping her eyes open...
Thanks both of you for your responses. I'm spending a lot of time staring at this little chicken and following him around the yard. I've read several threads on what to look for, but I still can't decide. I can't keep a rooster, so I try to figure it out as early as possible before they start...
I have 2 new EEs this year that hatched at the beginning of May. 1 is definitely a pullet, but I'm not sure on this 1. They both have the same size and color comb, but this 1 has more clearly defined rows and a more male feather pattern I think. The feathers around the neck have pointed...
Golden Sebright she is then! I was wondering if maybe she just has bad coloring for a Sebright, which would make sense. I'm thinking 'she', since my other one like her already is showing some growth and pinking in the comb. Her comb hasn't changed at all yet, so keeping my fingers crossed now...
Are you thinking both dark chicks are Golden Sebrights? Sorry my pics were taken with a cell, so the lighting is off. They actually look totally different up close. 1 of them is a Golden I'm pretty sure, but the other is dark tan and black striped with lots of black. No white/silver color at...
Thanks to both of you for your responses. I was thinking porcelain on chick 1 also. She/he has 4 toes if that makes a difference in ID of this 1. I haven't looked up cochins to know their characteristics, but I'll check that out. Hadn't considered silver Sebright either, so I'll look up pics of...
I have 3 new bantam chicks that are almost 3 weeks old. I'm pretty sure on 2 of the breeds, but not sure on the 3rd. I originally thought the 2 dark chicks were the same, since they looked very similar in the beginning, but they have different feather patterns now that they're coming in. Any...
I don't remember her name, but she advertises online through Craigslist in the Farm section when she is hatching. I have 1 that turned out to be a rooster, so he needs a home where he can crow! My 3 lavs are now 21 weeks old, and I've only heard him try to crow once, but that's once more than my...
I will say I'm so lucky to have 1 of my brothers living next to me and another 1 across the road ~ both are animals lovers. My brother next door frequently helps with evening lockup. He's also been great help during the high heat lately and changes water or adjusts fans during the day on...
I have 2, and they're certainly sassy about their treats to say the least. Pink, my drake, on the left, and Princess on the right. My 3 yr old daughter named both, and I just went with it.
