    HEEELLPP!! Emergency!!

I would take off the dead skin, take it off to the area where there is blood flow, add some kind of salve, keep him away from the others, they can get quite curious and picky. You will be surprised what chickens can recover from. I had a pullet who had the entire flesh on the back of her neck...

    HEEELLPP!! Emergency!!

If I am not mistaken, maggots only eat dead flesh, that is why in some wound care places they use maggots, to clean out the dead so only the fresh flesh (UGGH) is left to heal. I saw something about maggot use in hospitals on TV before. So maybe they are in fact helping....but of course THEY...

    HEEELLPP!! Emergency!!

Had a duck given to me by a friend (their dog attacked him). They thought the dog had just taken the feathers but I found a HOLE in his side...FULL of MAGGOTS!! I cleaned it out with, I think alchohol, peroxide is BAD for wounds, it deteriorates the skin so it won't heal (that's what the vet...

What is going wrong with my flock? UPDATE: It's CORYZA !!!!

Julie, I also live in fl and have deal with the sneezing, runny noses, and for a while everyone was on tylan. Then I read a post about how some people don't believe in medicating and those with strong immune systems survive, those who don't, perish. (Natures way?) Unless It is an extremely...

Help...what is wrong with my chicken's beak? (pics)

Looks like wet pox to me. I just went through this with my flock, thanks to the misquitoes. I had some that got the sores on the inside of the beak like that. I used a q-tip to clean the site of the white crusty cheesy stuff, made sure none formed in the throat and waited it out. My gold...

    Do they have coryza?

From what i have read about coryza, the stench is unforgettable. Rotting smell. If there is no stench then maybe just a mild respitory infection? I would give some tylan 50.(antibiotic) That always seems to help.

Pinless Peepers -- is it normal for them to make noses bleed?

Have you considered de-beaking them? I believe that is a big help with pecking issues and at their age if done they will eventually grow back...but hopefully have quit the bad habit. I would think a dremmel would work. But do some research first. Hope that helps. My ee chicks did that to each...

How does one keep a duck pond clean???

Just got two peking ducks for my birthday, and since i know nothing about them I got on BYC and began my research. I had an old bathtub taken out of one or our rentals and was planning on using it for another horse trough (they work great) but I thought why not use it for a "Duckuzzi" instead...

Right or wrong, here's what I did when a freind gave me two RIR that were covered with sticktight fleas. Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Ok, so how do you know if a NN is pure, I have seen so many different colors, feathers, as well as skin color. Is it pure as long as the neck is naked? Can you breed a show girl and a naked neck? I hear they lose their fluffyness due to the mixture (double NN gene) I am confused

    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Got a NN question. Upon reading this post I have seen the remark "pure naked necks"...I thought you could not breed two naked necks together as you would get a VERY NAKED chick? What is a pure NN? Any info would be great. (Oh yeah, I have 24 NN egss under my BR, 4 have hatched. GLW Naked...

My BO just hatched out our first chicks ever! We were so excited! As soon as those babies hatched my BR hen went broody...She layed on one and I added 5 turken/GLW eggs to her. I noticed that my GLW had stopped laying and I thought that was quite strange but she had just started recently, so...

Worst case senario seperate the chicks and put them together in a nursery, and let the moms with the rest of the flock. Remember, when we buy our babies at the feed store they are shipped out to them at one day old! (funny thing is I'm about to have the same thing going on at the end of the...

Scaly leg mites!! Soak the legs then scrub them with a toothbrush and sevin dust mixed in water, leave the paste on a few days and then do it again. The scales and gunk will eventually fall off and new scales will grow in. It took about a month, doing the legs every few days before they were...
