    fuzzi's Chicken Journal

It's supposed to warm up in the next few days. If some of the crops survived the extreme cold I might get more growth and be able to get a little harvest. :fl

    Your 2025 Garden

My house was built in 1970. It is just under 1100 sq ft, small by any standards. I have a very small bathroom in the middle of the house, no outer wall. On the other side is a half bath (toilet and sink only) with an outer wall, but the water lines are on the inside wall. If you're in the...

Yep. It's brief, and infrequent, so most pipes are not insulated. We let our faucets drip, and leave the vanity/cupboard doors open to allow the warmth of the room to moderate the cold air under the sink.

I'm still working, just not getting paid :gig Caleb is improving, settling in for the most part. He still is triggered by kitties, but is less reactive. Watching me cook...

Nothing is insulated here, as it rarely gets below 20°, and only for a day or two when it does.

    fuzzi's Chicken Journal

ENC's forecast is for extreme cold, for us, 15°F. I removed the remaining hose, did the best I could to insulate the faucet. Maybe I'll wrap it with an old towel or t-shirt to cover the gap. The foam covers fit great on the other two outside faucets. I'm afraid I'll be losing most of my...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

That's headed our way, in Eastern NC. It won't be as frigid as you're experiencing, but borderline record cold for us, at 15°. There will be a lot of perennials lost in ENC gardens.

What are your frugal and sustainable tips and tricks?

I have to look for them, they're not always carried by Lowe's (home improvement), and never by Wally World. I found some last year, bought at least six, whatever they had in stock. The house was built in 1970.

I sometimes hear them, but not have seen one in many years.

Check out the BYC sister site, Backyard Herds. There are a number of knowledgeable cattle ranchers there.

    Feeding Wild Birds

Feeders have been slow until earlier this week. I've seen Brown Thrashers and Pine warblers eating the peanut butter suet. Everything is now filled up, ready for an unseasonable cold forecast for Sunday evening.

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Thank you! I don't use any artificial sweeteners, do you know if just replacing the sucralose with granulated sugar will work? 🥧🥧🥧
