What are your frugal and sustainable tips and tricks?

I wonder how many people accept those cards but don't read that fine print. I shred those offers as quickly as I get them. Those high rates should be illegal. They get some people in trouble.

Evidently, a lot of people get into trouble with credit cards...

I had a new ducted heat pump system installed last year, including a new air handler. The old air handler/furnace used 16x20 inch filters and the new one takes 18x20 inch filters. And I still had a box of 5 new 16x20s on hand.

I learned it would be safe to use the narrower filters in the new air handler so I "made" an adapter to increase the filter width from 16" to 18". Not much to it other than a 2"x20" board, duct tape and masking tape. Duct tape secures the board to the filter, masking tape is to seal the top side to stop air from leaking past.

I'll be able to use $40 worth of filters now that otherwise would have been a loss. I change out the narrower filters on a more frequent basis. I put in a new filter today.

Had a big problem with chick-dust clogging the filter when the chick brooder was in the living room. LOL

In the 90s, banks sent out "pre-approved" credit cards to everyone and their brother, sister, friends. These were the actual credit cards (!!!) sent through the mail; just call the number on the back to activate.* The hook was 0% or very low interest rates for a few months, then "normal" rates would kick in.

I worked with some people who referred to them as "free money." I wonder how those people are doing now.

* I wonder how many people had their cards stolen out of their mailbox and got saddled with straightening out that mess.

The "free money" I always liked best was when I owed the IRS money at tax time. Those were nice, interest free loans from the US government.

Ha I have worked with worse filters.
At work my boss got a deal on filters. They were taped together... example: a 36 x 24 made out of a 20x20 with cut up taped together . The tape kept getting caught or was too many wraps to go through the slot. Costed more in salaries fiddling around with them than he saved

Luckily, I guess, I'm not paid by the hour or otherwise. LOL

My furnace filter is an odd size, 14" x 30".
