I like your question because I never thought of it. But just now I found "sustainable packaging" at wikipedia. It seems big companies need it to be affordable to do it, so they would rather poison the world for a dollar.
Wouldn't that be the best if the plastics industry had no workers to destroy our water? I can only dream of that day. I wonder though about the qualifications necessary to be a plastic industry worker and if they could easily get a different job. I think being smart enough to adhere to safety procedures to not get themselves injured in that kind of job would translate easily to a different more planet friendly job.
