So, we are new this whole thing, but I had a australorp go broody on me so we decided to give her a couple fertile bantom eggs to hatch. All has gone very well to this point. We have her separated and she is a devoted mom. She only leaves the nest once a day to peck around the yard, get a drink...
I LOVE this idea. It is a little like milk parlors at dairy farms in that the animal is rewarded with food for the behavior.
I'd love to find plans for these
I work 2.5 hours away so I'm not home everyday to collect eggs and have been contemplating on what to do so I have decided to
construct a roll out nest box. I haven't found any great designs/plans, if you have a roll out nest box can you post your pictures. So far I have taken what I have seen...
I let my turkeys set on there own eggs.
this year i ended up with 5 hens going broody in one nest box.
to prevent this i would like to build a Semi-trap so that only one hen at a time can enter the nest boxes.
I cant find any information on semi-traps.
can any one help me understand how the...
Does anyone have any experience with trap nesting ducks to determine who is laying and who is not?? If yes, does it upset them? It seems any little thing I do that throws off their routine causes some of them not to lay. For example I was getting 10-12 eggs a day, changed their pasture area -...
I am about to undertake some major remodelling of my hen housing, and want to swap over to trapnests. Does anyone have a 'secret' source that is cheaper than elsewhere? It looks like most places sell the Kuhl brand wire front, which is what I want, but prices seem to vary.
Thanks!
Joanna
I found a couple of great webpages on trapnests I thought I'd share with you all (no idea if anyone else has already posted these).
I love the simple trap nest on this page and think I'll give it a try.

I'm planning to build 2 more coops this Spring so that I can separate chickens for breeding.
Along with this, I've been thinking that perhaps I would build "trap-nests" and set them up so that when a hen leaves a nest she would go into a different part of the run...at least until I let her back...
Does anyone have a plan to build these? I need to separate my flock and I want to find out which hen is laying that fantastic blue egg! I saw plans somewhere that had a stick that the hen tripped and the door shut to close her in...thanks! Terri O
I have been reading about trap nesting. Does anyone still do this? Does anyone know where you can get instructions about hoe to build some? I am very interested n exhibition and pedigreed poultry. It would be very nice to be able to tell which hen laid which egg.
Thanks.
Wondering if anyone is using the metal trap next door fronts that are currently sold for about $25-$30 from Double R and others.
Do they work?
Did you build an extra deep nest box for them?... or just mound on the front of typical sized nests?
I was wondering about trap nesting so I can see which hens are laying which eggs but I won't be able to go check on them all the time. Will the hens go back on the nests if they get trapped in there for a couple of hours? Or will they end up going broody if they can't get off the nest? Does...
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone had any designs for "trap-nests", used to identify the hen that "layed the 'Golden Egg'...so to speak.........
I've seen a few older designs on the Internet.....but nothing yet that "tripped my trigger".
I want to build a couple of them to use in determining which...
I am remodeling my coop. going to build 14 nests in a row along one wall..
I need to find a design for a trap nest door..
please do not direct me to use the "search" listing from above..

I hit upon a moran site that had a picture of one, but I cannot find that thread...
I've read a lot about the importance of using trapnests to keep track of which hens lay well. Does anyone use trapnests these days? And where did you get your trapnests from?
I have an old Stromberg's catalog from 1988 and they had trap nest fronts for about $3. Now Stromberg's doesn't have...
Hello,
I had an escape route in my fence and the one and only chicken that decided to take a stroll was a broody hen sitting on about 22 eggs. The eggs are at all different stages because all of the other hens have been laying there and it took me a long while to realize why my egg...
Hi Y'All !
We want to be able to trap-nest the hens we have come spring, to see who's laying and who's not.
Therefore, we need to build some trap-nests. (or cages big enough for single waterers and feeders and keep them confined for a week.)
Anyone have any they've built?
I've heard about...
