So for my 1 yr anniversary my wonderful husband got me an incubator ( he must like making his life miserable) so I set some quail eggs and am waiting for them to hatch I check on them everyday although I know they wont start doing anything for awhile yet I like to imagine I'll have a 100% hatch...
hey i live in the upstate, does anybody have 2 buff orpington pullets for sale? these are the birds i want next but my local store keeps selling out of them. Id be willing to drive to pick them up for a resonable price. Day old or older but not ancient lol

dont use pine shavings because quail are so much smaller they may have trouble walking over it. When i had my quail chicks i used sand and just scooped it out with a kitty litter scope and replaced with more sand. once they get all their feathers they should do fine in the cold. I put mine out...
have you firgured out how to determine the sex of the coturnix quail? also they dont lay until this are about 16 weeks old so if they were too young that explains it. also they are seasonal layers so when the days get shorter they stop laying.
mine sleep on the ground. in their native habitat they hid under bushes and thick grasses so i provide them branches with leaves and sticks for the most natural habitat that i can provide.
I keep my quail in an enclosed pen because of their size they are more likely to get eaten by other animals. I had a snake get into my pen and eat one of the quail =( Plus they fly well when startled. I also wouldnt want to round them all up for the night everyday lol. They are very quiet but...
