    moorhen eggs help?

The chicks are cheeping away inside the eggs, but haven't made much progress past pipping. There's no hole, just a break point where the shell is pushed out. They've been pipped since 12pm yesterday, and they've made 2 more pushed out bits each, but no visible holes or zips. There's no way to...

    moorhen eggs help?

Eggs are in the process of hatching, but the water in the well to keep the humidity up is disappearing fast. I can't refill it without opening the incubator, but I don't want to shrink wrap my chicks. Any advice?

    moorhen eggs help?

Some of the eggs are moving! I think we must have at least 2 alive, and probably 2 others which look like they have moved but I haven't seen them move. There's only one which I haven't seen any signs of movement from. Fingers crossed they all make it out of the egg. I'm a bit worried that...

    moorhen eggs help?

Hi, we live on a river bank and our local moorhen breeds by our house every year. This year, she's had no luck. Her first clutch was washed away in a storm, and she laid another. She's been on them for 3 weeks, and today I went to check on her and found her dead in the water. I waded out and the...

    Help! Incubator problems!

They've phoned brinsea and they're sending us a new incubator but I don't think it will arrive by Wednesday. I don't think there's a cool down option and it wouldn't be on if there was one anyway, if I remember it's only the newer larger incubators which have that, our one isn't that smart haha...

    Help! Incubator problems!

Apparently the problem is with the temperature sensor and my parents are worried about resetting it and putting the eggs back in because it will think it's day 1 and start turning. I think there must be a manual override but I can't check because I'm not at home. What's a cool down option?

    Help! Incubator problems!

Hi there, I am away at uni and my mum back home has decided to hatch some chickens in our brinsea mini advance, no problems so far, we're on day 19 (chicks due on Wednesday) and the incubator has gone nuts! It thinks the temp is 42 degrees C, 107F so it's turned off the heater and is trying to...

    coturnix male/female ratio

We keep 1:5 without problems (with a single male), I would keep 1:8 or more with multiple males, we tried 1:3 and the male was a bit over friendly. However, we do not hatch so I don't know what our fertility levels are like, and also our male is an old man now so doesn't do his job very well...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I'm interested in veganism, because it doesn't make sense to me. I don't judge people for being vegan, as long as everyone can live and let live, I don't care what people eat, but I have never understood why people don't eat eggs.

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I have a question, and bare with me, do you eat your own eggs? If not, do you keep your chickens just as pets, and what do you do with your eggs?

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Live baring fish still don't actually mate though, my understanding is that the males shoot a sperm packet at the females. Things in the water, yes, was my implication, so that includes clams and coral etc etc. With regards to worms you mean hermaphrodites not bisexual lol, and snails and...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I think that fertilisation without penetration only works with fish and amphibians because of the fact that they're in water so they only have a semi-permeable membrane on their eggs. Obviously birds have a solid shell, and mammals carry embryos internally, I can't think of any other groups...
