Organically raised or vaccinated for Marek's preferred. I live in the Los Angeles area and want to pick up the birds (within about 50ish miles), not ship. Any info or leads on finding these breeds (must be a reputable breeder and very healthy flock/stock) would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank...
I am looking to buy at least a couple Blue (or reg) wheaton Ameraucana's. I am in the Los Angeles area and do not want to ship birds, but would prefer to pick them up. Organically raised or vaccinated for Mareks preferred. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
I import mine from England. I have done exhaustive searches and can't find them domestically ANYWHERE! I wish I could figure out how to make them myself!
My Walk-in Coop is on its way to being constructed right now! I'm so excited! I do live in So Cal, so " weather" is less of an issue, heat is my biggest bane. I long to deal with wet litter! Maybe soon our severe drought will see its end ( fingers & toes crossed)
Hahaha oh no, it has a lid & door, I just took it off to capture this image, in fact they were trying to fly out while I was trying to take the pic!
I'm going to transition them to larger quarters next week & maybe start giving them some outdoor time
I'm not 100% confident that my pic will show up here, but hope springs eternal- gotta pay those membership dues
So this image is obviously ' topless' so you can see the set up. In the right hand corner is the " trampoline" water bowl. I won't use plastic for food or water so my options were...
Odessy, I'm not sure where you live, but I'm in So Cali, and the ambient temps have been very high here. I've actually turned my mama pad down to 2 or 3 during the day and only had it on 6 the first night.
I'm taking my que from them as they were spending more time either at the cave opening or...
Love! This has been a gamechanger! I have never raised Chix & never liked the idea of heat lamps. I fashioned my Chix cave after the pix you provided and my 4 babies love it! I like that they can self regulate and it brings me great joy to see them come running out of the cave when they hear me...
Great info Reindeermama, thank you! I am in So Cal so we don't get snow, or rain. This is the first coop I've really felt ok about purchasing quality wise, all the others do look like they will fall apart in two weeks! I've tried to hire 3 people to build me a custom one but they all flaked for...
Thanks for the review. Can you elaborate on what you would change? I'm looking at purchasing the walk in style and would like to hear your feedback, it may be helpful to me :-) Cheers!

HOLY SMOKES! That is INCREDIBLE, Air B&B could def be an option if you ever moved those chickens out! Lolol really beautiful! It warms my heart to see other people care so much about their birds that they go to all the time & trouble to build them such a paradise
Is it possible that Buff Orpingtons are more sensible to temps? It's been colder here recently but I'm talking 50's not 30's. I just noticed the red on her feet & legs again, I haven't noticed it in the past couple months.
I'm in So California and although it CAN get cold where I am, it rarely freezes and if there IS any ice, it melts quite quickly. I would be hard pressed to think their feet have ever actually made contact with ice. Thank you for the question though, I appreciate your reply.
Cheers!

What about when it's a hen? By all outward appearances, she's healthy, active, laying but she has these red lines that start by her toes and travel an inch up the back of her legs. No sign of scale.
Any ideas?
Thank in advance,
Ann
That is a great and helpful link Fire Tigris, thank you!
And I too have one little Silky (I have 2 but the same one gets the "attention") who is the object of what appears to be the roo rapists. Which is strange becaouse when she first arrived, SHE was the one who ruled the roost over everyone...
