i'm not an OT, but one of our BR's just started laying monday so i thought i'd respond. she was 22 weeks old, but her waddles and comb exploded several weeks ago. she had also been going in the nest boxes for an hour or so every day for a week before she started laying, just arranging hay but...
finally got my first egg!!!! like literally found it 15 minutes ago. it's been driving me crazy cuz all 4 of my pullets have been really red in the face and their combs/waddles exploded weeks ago. betty, our oldest BR, has even been going in the nest boxes everyday for like an hour the last week...
thanks bee, i'll throw that on my honey do list for the weekend ;). that is if the rain lets up, we've got the remnants of Isaac rolling through at the moment.
so here's a random question that i'm almost embarrassed to ask. i discovered today that at least one of my pullets has been snacking on paint chips... several years ago i painted my house, and decided at the last minute to throw a coat on my back stairs as well while i had the paint sprayer...
opened up my nest boxes today finally. my coop layout is such that our nest boxes are the kind you see with the outside access with the hinged roof, and i had been using it til now for storing random chicken related odds and ends. my 2 BR's have gone from a mildly red face/comb/almost...
therapydoglady, thank you for participating on this thread. i've enjoyed your input and comments, and would guess just from your posts that you are truly a wonderful person with a kind spirit. may your kindness be repaid to you with nothing but comfort and happiness in whatever your future...
i'm not an OT (or ridgerunner obviously ), but i'm pretty sure somewhere earlier in this mountain of a thread is where i saw it discussed before. you can put the zip ties on pretty loosely, just so long as it's not loose enough to actually fall of their feet (which can mean surprisingly loose)...
thank you for that al lol... my kids heard me laughing and are now begging me to relay the joke to them...not sure they'll get the humor in it (they're young), but here goes...
congrats!! and tony, some of those brown one's look like they're a pretty good size, especially for chickens that just started laying. i was assuming it'd take a while for chickens to ramp up to nice sized eggs like that. just shows how ignorant i am still lol. excited for you guys!
sure is a small world sometimes lol. i was born and raised in blue springs, and my wife and i have lived here in liberty for the last 10 years. i'm gonna hold you to what you said about sharing your stories ;) hope your meeting goes well!
you're stronger willed than me, i would have already fried and ate those things up lol. a fine looking mess of eggs you have there though, i'm sure you'll enjoy them ;)
like i said i looked around the web and got a couple numbers to try tomorrow but most of what i found from googling "livestock feed" and the like seemed to be the huge industrial feed giants in and around downtown KC,and pretty much everything else had pretty much no info at all other than a...
i was curious if anyone knows of a local feed mill around the kansas city area? i'm interested in looking into places that grind and mix the feed on site. just wanted to explore all my options if i have any other than just buying the pre-packaged/shipped big name brands from the local TSC (or...
