Yeah I was thinking of getting a female if the hatchery I live by will sex them for me since I will be picking it up instead of being shipped out... But, I need to convince my fiance before I get one. Not sure how to go about doing it though... I've been trying to convince him for 6 weeks since...
I've recently fell in love with the muscovy duck and have been reading up about it. I'm seriously considering getting one from a hatchery i live near but was wondering if anyone had any advice or tips before I decide for sure if I should get one or not? I read that they are "quackless"... is...
If you wouldnt mind that would be awesome! I have 4 ducklings that are only 6 weeks old right now and they are rather big.... They are part pekin and I believe snowy duck? Any way, they are big, at least compared to when we got them at 6 days old. ha,
I've noticed as my ducks are growing and getting older (they're old 6 weeks right now) that my 2 females are waaay more freakish then my males. my 2 males will freak out a little but seem to calm down more easily whether i'm doing something in their pen or handling them were the females run in...
Here's a pic of mine at 6 days old. They were hatched naturally on January 15th by their mom. They are a mix between a Pekin and a Snowy duck I believe. Their parents are owned by my fiances aunt and uncle. This was the first night we had them home,
Here they are at 4 weeks old, The white-ish...
Scovy Momma- How did you go about making that diaper for your duck? do you have like a template or something? I'm trying to figure out how to make diapers for my 4 ducks while they're inside for the winter so I dont have to be constantly cleaning their pen and the floor... and the walls... but I...
I haven't dealt with either but you should base your decision on whats more important to you, shipping costs or getting the male and female that you want.
Frozen peas are best, either thawed out with some water in the micro wave or thrown in some warm water while they swim. I used some canned peas last night since I had no frozen ones in the house but I made sure they didn't have any sugar or salt added and rinsed them completely before giving it...
Here are some of my ducklings, the first pic is the night we brought them home. they were only 6 days old, the second they are 2 weeks old and the 3rd was taken yesterday and they'll be 5 weeks old on sunday.
I'm still trying to convince my fiance that keeping one inside as an indoor duck...
Thanks for the tips guys, I know they will be going outside into the coop in a few short weeks (even though I'm trying to convince my fiance that keeping one in the house is a good idea) I at least want them to be willing to be handled should something ever be wrong and they need to be brought...
They are pekin/snowy mixes. here is a picture of them
They were all hatched from the same parents in the same batch of eggs. I think the black one laying down is a female alone with the brownish one and I think the other 2 are males.
Thanks for the tip. I will try that! I currently have their pen door open so they can come close to me on their own when they feel comfortable but they only go about a foot outside their pen and run back in the second i move. I guess I'm trying to rush thing because a couple weeks ago they would...
