To me it looks like #2 is a pullet, I can’t see a comb and it has a small crest. #1 looks like a cockerel with the large crest and more prominent comb and wattles. Not sure on the other two.
I’m so happy that it’s spring again, and so are my girls. I have two barred rocks and two barnyard mix bantams. They have a harder time in winter, and I’m not able to let them out to free range because of the snow, which they HATE. But now that it’s spring, they get lots of outdoor time to enjoy...
@aart I’m sorry this was as clear as I could get before my phone died and Rocky flew away. It doesn’t give perspective as to where the wound is so I drew the area that it is in. Also, the scab is larger than what is showing, but it looks the same the whole way through.
Hey guys, last Sunday I noticed that my Barred Rock, Rocky was limping, a really weird kind of limp where she raises her injured leg in the air and really high before putting it down and hopping on her normal foot. My first thought was Mareks, because we’ve had two birds die from it and I know...
Hi all, just picked up some praziquantel for chickens from the vet, will be giving it to them and cleaning out all the poop and beddings and replacing with a new layer of sand and shaving

Yuck! Just noticed today, they were moving, i’m assuming tape worms? what should i do for treatment? Must be available in Canada... I’ve heard pumpkin seeds are good? I’ll give them that until i know what medicine. Thanks
as if this morning she is doing wonderful! actively running and scratching around the yard, eating the wet mash and drinking the electrolyte water and gobbling up scrambled eggs. she is even back to her old ways of bossing the others around and being in charge!
We believe she is 1-2 years old, and yes we have gotten many eggs from her, she is an outstanding layer.
Her crop seems normal, like full but not bloated, and a good texture.
I haven’t seen her poop but i’ll keep an eye on that.
there is no discharge around her vent and it didn’t appear to...
One of my Barred Rock mixes that we just got 4 weeks ago is often hunched by herself in a corner. She was perfectly healthy yesterday and the day before, and even today she was flying around and eating and foraging. it’s on and off with the hunching. She is vaccinated for Mareks disease and ILT...
