Well, we actually saw the fox attacking. In fact, itbhad one in its mouth when we found her. She dropped the in in her mouth and the hen had several puncture wounds around her back and her leg was hurt or something and she could t stand or walk. I seperated her because the roosters kept...
I went ahead and bought a turkey fryer and this worked perfectly! It came with a temperature gauge and that let me know if t was the right temperature, then I just adjusted the gas accordingly.
Oh my goodness! We did a few birds and so far, they are weigh in at around 5 pounds after we processed them. And they are only 5 1/2 weeks! We lost a couple die to hear attack and others' combs are looking pink, so we decided to do it. I was afraid they'd be too small, but wow!
Thanks. I considered putting some fencing up this morning before we left for church, but I read they have to be over 6 feet tall. I don't have that fencing here right now. How did you secure your runs?
It's funny though, because tomorrow our local farm store is getting in some breeds of chickens I want. I told my husband I was going to skip getting any more, since I though getting any more would be excessive. (I had 55 chickens total counting my meat chickens). Now I'm going to go ahead and...
Yes, we free range all the time and rarely have too much trouble. Last year we had some trouble with a momma raccoon and her babies, but we caught them pretty quickly. I know once a predator finds you, it's nothing but trouble. I think they are both great ideas. I can keep them in the coop...
We have a fox problem. So far, she's eaten 6 and wounded one. We have set up a live trap, but I still feel like I'd like to do more. Anyone have any other ideas that have worked? We don't have a LGD, although I wish we did.
I have 30 to do. To me this is a lot. I think we may try and break it up into separate weekends. Do you think it's a whole lot better than using a turkey fryer?
I'm getting ready to process my first batch of Cornish rocks in a week or two and I'm gathering my equipment. I'm wondering what everyone uses for scalding. I have a friend who recommends a turkey fryer, but I don't have one and I don't really want to buy a new one. I've been looking for a...
We got our sweet little pigs, but today I found they haven't been dewormed. I had already planned on using DE, garlic and rosemary for preventative measures. But I am wondering if these things will cure a current outbreak? Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this?
