It is sad for an animal to die but he was going to be processed anyway and death by bobcat is as fast as any. He lived a good life roaming free til the end...better life than most chickens (not to mention roosters) live.
Sorry I didn't update sooner...knew it'd be a long post and have been busy with school!
[4" wide mountain lion track I found across the street in wash]
I found more mountain lion tracks out in the desert but none in my yard.
I then left one of my roosters out of the coop during the night...
No idea where to find my original post but awhile back I wrote about a big cat getting into our yard and killing our poultry. I was concerned it was a mountain lion and had found mountain lion tracks in the wilderness across the street and next to the covered turkey kill.

Hmmm...that is interesting! Perhaps they came from a hatchery or someone was doing a similar cross as you saw in their backyard. I thought it was interesting that they all looked the exact same! Anyways, the Basque breed is quite gorgeous! Glad I discovered that there is a real breed that looks...
I assume they are just mutts. I got them a couple months or so ago from a hobby chicken owner. He ended up with at least ten young birds that all had this coloring, but he said he didn't know what breed(s) they were (no I idea where he got them from). I thought they were pretty little mixes so I...

Since we have had the leg hold traps out, the dogs have been kept in. We have four American Pit Bull Terriers. My boy can be trusted 100% with the chickens while I am not home... but I do not trust my three girls alone (although I know they are excellent with the poultry while I am around). So...
WOW! 15? That's awful :( 40" is really big...especially for a female! Glad you guys got it but it is a bitter sweet thing. I feel bad about putting traps out for this cat but I can't let my animals get killed. I was certain this was work of a bobcat until I found these prints. Tomorrow...if it...
Hi all--

Well...my husband came out the other morning to find a trail of turkey feathers across the yard. Between the feathers and drag marks left from the turkey's wing tips, we could follow the trail of that the predator took to leave our yard. He/she jumped our 5 foot no-climb fence (which we had...

I am thinking it is CRD? :( These animals are not overcrowded but it has been cold (for Arizona...which means about 30*F at coldest). Never been through this before. If I cull the turkey, is he safe to eat? I read many don't believe in treating birds that exhibit...
