I don't think they could eat an egg without getting that messy beard + eat all of the eggshell. I can't believe your hen is taking even longer than mine did. At least your other little one is giving blue eggs!
Please update me when that golden egg finally pops out! 😂
@Draya I buy extra large eggs here too, so I'm not getting quite enough eggs just yet. My Barnevelder lays up to 58g.
@Sarzetta beautiful egg colour! Love the shine 🤩
@Chey1214 Australian Araucanas are quite similar to Ameraucanas, but considered different breeds :)
I have little experience myself, but one of mine laid a couple of weeks after her peacomb reddened and plumped up, while the other was as red and took 1.5months longer. And neither squatted! 😅
My head hen, a Barnevelder, stopped squatting when she took a break for the winter. Once she squatted...
Ok so today was an extremely noisy morning where my little flock of 3 all laid!
Here's my blue(ish green) egg! This is the closest photo to how it is in real life.
Also, to keep the topic relevant to my thread heading haha, here's the red face of my lavender Araucana who laid the egg at...
I don't think we have Golden Comets here in Aus. Are they considered production breeds too? I googled and they seem to be different from ISA Browns, which we have.
Mine's 33 weeks old now (miscounted before). Pelvic bones and vent check a few days ago show she's close, and she was practising her egg song over the weekend.. but no egg yet!
Here's comparing her comb with her sister who's been laying for about a month.
My lavender is still hanging around eggless 🤣
My blue EE gets very chatty a couple of hours before she lays (not the egg song, just chatty) and quietens back now straight after. Sounds like you'll get your blue egg very soon!
My SDL barnevelder finally started laying, and unlike my blue girl...
@Draya I second that, 3&4 are blue.
1 is lavender but it's a very light lavender like mine, almost white. I'll be interested to see what colour eggs you get from the red vs white earlobes :)
