Thanks guys, second one is safely out but I did have to intervene. No bleeding, yolk is absorbed. But the egg shell is still attached to it, so I leave it and let it detach naturally or should I cut it?
hi everyone! Need some help/advise...
I am on day 26 of a hatch. Hen was on the clutch till day 21, then walked away. Eggs have been in a incubator since. They started moving on day 23, cheeping on day 25 around 11am and two pipped evening of the 25th. I now have one fully hatch, one still only...
Weather is suppose to warm up over the weekend so they will all be free to run around and get some space. I’ll keep an eye to make sure she isn’t being bullied too much!
Yes, she is laying well, she is 10 months. Thanks for the tips, I’ll go check tonight with a flash light. I have been adding diatomaceous earth to their coop and bathing areas so I was hopeful that would be sufficient enough to keep mites off of them.
It almost looks like the feathers are...
Yes, I did check her over and didn’t see anything. Would they be directly on her skin? Maybe I’ll do a quick double check...
I’ve got 11 hens and 1 roo, I’d say she is in the middle. I’m tying to keep a closer eye on her now...it’s cold here right now (-20) so they have been cooped up for about...
hi all,
One of my girls is missing neck feathers. She is the only one in the bunch.
New to this...any thoughts on what is/has happened? I’ve read molting, mites, lice, etc. With no one else showing signs I’m hoping to rule out the latter two, but is this what molting looks like?
Help.
Thank...
Hi everyone! I've just started with my first baby chicks that I picked up last weekend, mixed flock ranging in age from 4 days to 2 weeks. Everything has been going very well (thank you for all of the advise!) Today I added 2 new babies (I was warned chickens would be an addiction lol) that are...
Great advise, thank you! Question...should the chick be able to run out both sides, or is it okay if it is backed up against a wall with only access the front? I don't want any trapped or squished chicks!
It makes total sense and I will definitely be using the mama heat pad method:) thank you for taking the time to go through the differences and benefits. So glad I joined BYC!
Okay so paper towel is a good option? I guess layered for easy cleaning. I read that somwhere...ever daynor twice a day pull up a layer for a clean floor. Would you put wood chips in a run? No cedar, got it!
We have lots of that on the property! Maybe start with shavings (large, then move to smaller while they are inside) and add to that with the garden scraps when they go into the coop. What about footing for the run? I wanted grass, but assume that will last a Week before they eat it all. We will...
Yes, I want to do the deep litter method! I have read that day old chicks should be on news paper or paper towel for the first week or two to prevent them from eating the shavings?
Oh my goodness, HOW CUTE!! I am so excited:) they look super happy and comfortable. So straw on top of it? I've read a lot about using shavings...what is your opinion?
