I would keep the sex linked barred rocks for the best layers. The bufforp will probably lay pretty well too, but may require more food to fill out those meaty britches. I'd also keep an EE for uniqueness. So my vote would be barred rock and EE.
With mixed breeds it is hard to tell. I have a barred rock mix roo, and he will throw out chicks with dots on their heads depending on what hen laid the egg. The dots are always the boys.
Right!? It is by far my favorite egg. I'm hoping to try and breed a few more by mixing my wheaten Ameracauna cross roo with my marans and marans crosses. :)
I've loved my white leghorn Mariana crosses. They lay almost everyday. Even my three year old! From my experience, anything with leghorn cross is a great layer.
Awesome! I just hatched out an SBEL crossed with a blue marans roo, a Australorp crossed with a white leghorn, and a silkie hen crossed with a frizzle roo.
Thanks! I love the wheaten rocks and am sad that they were both Roos. :( I am hatching out chicks of a white leghorn/EE hen (SBEL), who was under a blue copper marans. Should be olive edgers that lay a huge leghorn size egg. :) I'm also hatching out a silkie showgirl mix! We'll see how they turn...
