hey folks! love seeing the pictures. I have ONE sebright in my flock. she was the only one from my previous flock who survived mareks which was pretty incredible given how little she is. (her picture is my avatar). She is a spoilt little brat who screams and throws tantrums for treats, and...
I was thinking about starting by reducing the amount of daylight hours that she receives. I don't think I'd do any starving, that doesn't seem like a productive way to help her while she's weak, but more rest (putting her to bed in a dark place earlier than the other hens, and letting her out...
Hey folks
I have a 2 year old sebright who lays a ridiculous amount of eggs. She's a small bird, and she lays the most amount of eggs in the flock, about 5-6/week sometimes.
She is very healthy and active, except in the past month she's had a really hard time with egg laying. I think the...
hi everybody, just an update that my hen is doing SO much better after a calcium and vitamin boost over the past couple weeks. her comb is dark, but it doesn't seem to be affecting her in any way, she's very perky and healthy. she has better looking eggs, she's not struggling to lay them, and...
hi everybody, just an update that my hen is doing SO much better after the calcium and vitamin boost over the past week. better looking eggs, she's not struggling to lay them, and she's laying them in the right places again. i had no idea she was so deficient, we raise them so well. i guess...
okay! thank you TwoCrows i'll definitely be in touch with more questions, and will repost here in a couple of weeks about how she's doing. I hope she'd go broody, but she's really not the broody type :)

Thank you twocrowsranch. I was thinking that if the calcium deficiency causes soft shells, and that makes it hard for them to pass without straining, then it makes sense that a calcium deficiency can cause them to strain. Also calcium is an important mineral that helps with muscle...

Thanks for the response. ok, i'm looking at CA + vitamins, electrolytes, ACV in the water. I'll test it out for a week and see if she's getting better before i conclude otherwise. i'm trying to figure out how long it would take for her to show signs of being better, before i can move...
Thanks. Have you ever seen the straining issues with a calcium deficiency? do you have any sense of how long before i should seeing a change? Would help me to try and narrow down on the diagnosing.
hey everybody. I need some help with my chicken.

thanks for the update. do you think it could be a calcium deficiency? they can have a lot of irritation in their reproductive tract from a calcium deficiency. i'm going to try and up the calcium for my hen and see if that makes a difference for her.
hi, i'd love to know how she's doing. i have a hen with very similar symptoms, and i'm doing the same thing - calcium + worming. Only thing i'm not doing is antibiotics.
hey there, i'm wondering how your hen is doing. i'm having a very similar issue with my 2 year old sebright hen as well, she just has been laying her eggs out in the open, all of a sudden like she can't control it, and they either been chalky shelled or soft shells with small blood stains on...
I've looked through all the links presented. i'm not sure that she really has any of the infectious diseases. She has no diarrhoea, no discharge of any kind, no respiratory issues. Just a darkening comb, and though she's active, she's not her usual self. Does anybody have any thoughts on what...
Hey folks,
I'm wondering if somebody might be able to give me some ideas.
My 2 year old female sebright has been having some health issues since last saturday. On saturday morning last week, I found her looking really down suddenly, walking real slow, panting hard, looking like she was about...
