Sorry for the low quality photos, it’s hard to really see in the eggs specially with only one hand around the light. The egg with the four on it is the youngest egg, and the egg with no number is the oldest egg. You can’t hardly see anything but the air cell in the oldest chick’s egg, but the...
So I found a nest of eggs hidden in our coop a couple weeks ago and the temperature here is hot enough to where they were incubating the whole time. They’re in an actual store bought incubator now, but all of the eggs are on different days of development. I also don’t know exactly what day they...
My hen has about a week and a half old eggs that’s he is laying in, but somehow she got out of the brooder pen and back into the regular coop where we found her in a new nesting box. I put her back on the old nest and she has been laying on them for a good hour. The eggs were cold when I first...
So one of my 7 to 8 week old chicks got out of the coop. We aren’t really sure how. We just sprayed round up an hour ago and she was around the sprayed areas. We don’t know if she ate anything. I’m pretty certain she didn’t eat any of the grass, but then again I don’t know. Should I be concerned?
My chickens do the same for 5 - 30 minutes. Chickens can’t see in the dark, at least that’s what I’ve heard. I’m pretty sure it’s them just settling down and communicating since they can’t see anything. With the heat plate, does it give off any light? If it does then they probably have never...
My chicken was diagnosed with coccidiosis recently and all of our chickens are now on a five day treatment. They are close to laying their first eggs and I was wondering if the medication used to treat the parasite will enter their eggs. I used Corid/amprolium from the tractor store. On this...
My chicken was diagnosed with coccidiosis three days ago and half the chickens are showing signs of it in their poop. They’ve all been treated and all are almost in perfect health. Is it ok to clean the coop before the full treatment is over or should I wait until the parasite is thoroughly treated?
Yes all forms of corn are considered hot, or to keep your chickens warm in the winter. I’m not sure about Bermuda hay. I personally use chips and shavings.
It’s not necessary to cover the ground right away or at all. Your coop, where the chickens sleep, seems to be covered and secure already. The run doesn’t have to covered because the main predators that dig are nocturnal and your chickens will already be in the secure housing part of the coop at...
My chicken Quinn, is about 12 weeks and hasn’t started laying. She stays in the coop alone all day and just roosts in the same spot. I picked her up and set her outside with the others but she just went to the planter and roosts on the edge. She doesn’t eat as much as she did and she doesn’t...
I’m sorry but I have no idea how to help. It could be a respiratory disease, allergy, or something normal for that Individual chicken. These are just a total guess though.
I’m not as experienced, but I see no harm in calmly moving them to the run. Is there a reason other than fear that they stay in the coop? Such as heat, food, or water. If it’s fear, they will get over it fast when they realize it’s safe. Also provide treats for them.
Ok thank you. This was a huge help. I have a silkie that is 99% a rooster. It’s only 8 weeks so not definite. The two roosters have been raised together and I have 9 hens, who have also been raised with the roosters. Is it possible to keep both of them and keep the peace.
