Sadly, no. I suppose it's possible that there was a puncture wound that I didn't find when cleaning her. I kept the one I knew about clean, but if there was another one it could have gotten infected. That may explain why she seemed okay for a few weeks then suddenly went downhill.
Thank you...
Got home and marched out to the coop with gloves on and a bottle of lube, only to find homegirl chilling under the adarodnack chair like nothing was wrong.
Found an egg in the yard near where I set her up for the day.
She doesn't seem to be quite herself and refused peas, though she is...
This afternoon I called the ducks and all but one came for their dinner. I went out looking and found her a 1/4 mi down stream playing opposum in a thicket by the shore.
Amazingly she's okay. When I came in behind her she scared the crap outta me because I thought she was dead. She took off...
The boys were excited to see her. The girls couldn't have cared less. Homegirl hung out for a few minutes then took off down stream. The boys started to follow but realized that the rest of the girls weren't interested in moving so they stuck around.
The water certainly wasn't warm, but I've...
I let her out Tuesday afternoon. She ran away from the flock and I had to walk through the woods into waist deep water to get her.
I now have a new problem.
I love this duck, but I'm so ready for her to return to the flock. At this point though I worry about her oil gland and how soaked she was the day I let her out with the flock. Anything I can/should do to try other than more frequent baths to get her oil gland going?
She's been making a good recovery once again, though she laid a massive 122g the other day and seems to have taken a few days off to recover. We have snow here today so I'm working from home. I thought it might be nice to have her hang out with the other ducks and go for a swim, so I brought her...
Vet appointment went well! It looks like her wound scabbed up and the scab started shrinking. The vet removed the scab and has me restarting her on topical.
We had to stop by my office on the way home because I forgot my phone. She's becoming a better passenger.
No visitor yet. Since I have to make sure I have a waterer big enough for two for a full day, otherwise it'll have to wait until I'm home to refill the water during the day.
Some updates from this evening. She had a swim for the first time since Saturday and seems to have forgotten that she's afraid of the faucet. Her leg looks worse, but I think that's expected.. it kinda looks like hell while it's healing. She's using it, and even scratched her face with that...
She's doing well! I'm thinking of bringing one of the other females up to stay with her on the back deck even if it's only temporary. She's definitely putting pressure on the foot, though it's still obviously hurting her.
I accidentally left her oral meds outside and it froze.. making giving...
