That works. I swear, it's so hot, it smells like things are cooking when I step outside. It smells like a not so pleasant restaurant. Or maybe dive would be a better word...
We have a swamp cooler, but our coop isn't big enough for it. We hit 111 today, had the mister on since this morning, and have hosed down the run every few hours.
So sorry about your rabbit. Our mister does seem to be helping [fingers crossed[
Been out checking my girls constantly today. We crested at 111, but worry about when I'm at work and can't check on them till I get home.
Tried out some kale on the senoritas -- they were not impressed. So I'm going to make them pasta, cut the kale up, and toss it in. Pasta if their most favourite thing, so maybe I can get them to eat the kale that way. We'll see. They're so spoiled!
Dumb question ahead.... how do I best transport eggs for my broody Pepper back home during a 4 hour trip? A hot water bottle to keep them warm? I honestly have no clue on this.
I was seriously tempted to steal it away from them when I was cooking on the grill outside, let me tell you! But I'll be good and buy one for myself LOL
Yeah, mud isn't really a problem here. I turn the mister off, and it's bone dry within a few hours. I'm only having it on when the sun's full on their run.
hee! I just replied farther up about the mister. It wasn't very expensive - got it from Amazon, along with the filter piece since we have very minerally water.
I got a mister kit this year, and we ran it over the shrubs they like to sit under. I'm hoping that, along with frequent hose showers, and keeping the ground damp, will be enough, especially this weekend when we're supposed to hit 115 :(
Thanks for the info :)
My brother, is as we type, doing chicken math, muttering about the need to expand the coop, the run, and how many months he'd have to get it done.
We use the shower setting on our garden hose attachment, and they grumble a bit, but seem to enjoy it when it's really hot. When it's just regular hot, we spray down the run, the shrubs around a few times a day.
It's supposed to be 114 here this weekend! YIKES! Worried about keeping the girls cool. I did get a small mister kit this year, started using it earlier in the week and they seem to be enjoying it. About a month back, I got one of those low under the bed storage containers and filled it with...
