I picked up 4 chicks from a feed store yesterday the oldest he said were around 4 weeks, and the other 2 are around 2 to 3 weeks. One of the cochins was a little lethargic and is around the 2 to 3 week mark. And one of them had bloody poop. Could this be cocci? The chicks are all eating and...
Okay so like he can run and stuff and stand but their are times I was watching and it just seems like he would tip over a little and have to use his wing to catch him. I watched him run and stuff, but then he would maybe lose his balance and almost fall over. Its not a problem he usually has...
Okay so I have a young rooster. Hatched july or august I believe and the other day he was totally lifeless, we brought him inside gave him some kiefer water (sugar water not sure how to explain but supposed to be good for you, and perks chicks up really well, and chickens love it as a treat) and...
Pets or no? Yes I would say they are more pets.Unfortunatly some of these pets have a limited life expectancy. When they stop laying some of them will go. When I rooster no longer serves his purpose he will also go. I like to play with colors and such so once I see what I roosters overspring...
I have two EE's and we are beginning to wonder if they will ever lay. They are in the 30 week area, I think even over 32 weeks. Their combs are only a light pink, and they don't look ready to lay yet. Beautiful birds but i am getting impatient lol
She is doing great! My mom was out their checking on her and somehow she had gotten a vine with burrs wrapped around her wing. I don't know how we didn't notice it before! We took it off and all was well. I am guessing the bad egg was probably cause she was stressed!
The problem is with 16ish hens we are lucky to get 5-8 eggs a day in JULY! And 5 of those eggs were from our 5 new layers. The other 3 were 1 sex link, 1 red and the silkie! We have had a huge decline, I can probably add some light, might help with the newer layers who also have suddenly stopped...
I read that and none of them seem to really fit. They could be molting but Im not sure. They havent been getting tons of treats lately. Daylight maybe but it seems to early for such a huge decline.
Okay so these 2 are like 30 give or take a few weeks and their combs are a light pink. Both are skittish around other birds, and people though the one likes to fly onto my head or arms. Anyways they are fed and have fresh water daily, but we are not getting any eggs! We are beginning to wonder...
One thing I have found effective is to let the older hens free range with the younger ones. I have let my hens free range with chicks as young as 4 weeks. Usually they come check em out maybe give em a peck and then get bored. Some don't even bother them they are to interested in finding bugs...
So yesterday my BR hen layed an egg with no shell, her poop is kind of runny and a yellowish/greenish abnormal color. She just kind of sits there and just plain isnt looking all that hot. she eats and drinks, but lack of energy is bothering me.
I was watching my BR hen and she looked like she was trying to lay well she layed a egg with a broken membrane and yoke. The yoke fell and was instantly devoured the membrane just kind of stuck to her should i be worried? First time I have seen this.
Ah welcome to MN! I would be interested in some of these answers to. I bought a heater for my waterer last winter and it didnt work well. It was the type you set the waterer on. my birds all did fine and stayed inside mostly in fact they were scared of the snow! Last winter was nice and mild so...
