About a decade ago Greenfire Farms in FLA was an active importer of rare chicken breeds from around the world. It cost them roughly $10,000 per import w/restrictions plus USA quarantine time up to 6 months before birds would be released to Greenfire to start breeding the rare birds. USA...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

It takes patience and perseverance to train. The whole time we had the chicks inside all they wanted to do was jump thru the sliding door especially since there were chickens outside too. But once we opened the door to let them explore they balked at the threshold and wouldn't go out. We...

I know Buckaboo Farm in Santa Ana breeds/ships Silkie eggs and D'Uccles & many other breeds but not sure about Sebrights? Have you hatched shipped eggs before -- I hear there's a 40 to 100% failure rate because no matter how careful they're packed cracking is an issue. I never got any hatching...

How cool is that to have fancy jets in your flight path! We live next to a freeway and our flight path overhead is just news helicopters covering traffic news! They fly so low and vibrate the house but our hens are so accustomed to the noise and the noise of 4th of July illegal fireworks they...

Wyan for short (like Ryan) :D Something will eventually work out for him I'm sure -- you sure gave us fun naming him! We came up with 3 Asian names for our 3 newest Silkies before picking up the chicks from Buckaboo Farm but decided one would be named after two dear relatives instead. The...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

My BYC friend (we connected w/ each other many years ago) no longer keeps chickens :( but keeps me informed on two cats and two dogs, one being an adorable shi tzu 4 years old. :) It seems they are happy dogs w/ calm temperaments. My friend has him groomed monthly -- quite costly but worth it.
