Not sure what your access is to calling a veterinarian in your area or consulting with one online to recommend what dosage for your doggie's weight. Magnesium is one of those substances good for heart function, absorption of calcium, calming nerves & calming pain, & a whole lots more.

We have a 77-trace minerals drink we add to our chicken waterers a couple times a month because all living things need trace minerals but because chickens weigh so little we don't overdose them. Our veterinarian is always reminding us to give our chickens vitamins and trace supplements.

Our pets unfortunately have short lifespans and we do our best to keep them well and comfortable as long as possible. We love the creatures God made for our enjoyment

Ok..sounds like we're in the same boat. I'm not sure what your little one has. My 13 year old Shi Tzu is having pain and seizures. She's been on Carprophen and Tramadol for a while now. Carprophen for inflammation and Tramadol is a pain pill. The vet just started her on phenobarbital for her seizures. She scared me so bad with the latest ones..I thought she was dying right in front of me. It was awful. She had been having seizures off and on for this past year, but not nearly this bad! The medication is helping. She's had a few but their not nearly as bad as she was having the past few weeks. Oh man, loving dogs is wonderful until it's time to say goodbye. I'm older, I've had a few. I've got several in box urns. We can't explain all of her pain. We know she has arthritis. Limps pretty bad at times. Meds help..Carpophen. She'll be laying down soundly and all of a sudden jump up yelping and goes on to walk off what ever pain that was. I give her extra Tramadol when she does that. She acts perfectly fine at times during the day...meds..helping. Whats going on with your dog?

He's lost a lot of weight due too his age being 13 and one month old .

He has always been a nervous dog, due to the start and first few years of his life.
He was almost killed by his mother when he was a puppy. So a family member brought him home and I bottle fed him for a month too six weeks

Then he moved into a flat with my family but it wasn't a good situation so he didn't get out much. Whilst there he was attacked my a senior cat then a senior Jack Russell. He never would defend himself.

He was grieving and my family thought he really needed me as I hand reared him and had him through his operation and when they went on holiday apparently he pined every time he went back and eventually he refused food and water

Shortly after i moved and we had a home invasion and he almost died again. Maybe shock, his eyes were rolled back to the whites, I somehow resuscitated him

Then seven years ago he was attacked yet again by 3 dogs. He became ill when we went to a local dogs day out two years ago, that's when I saw he was not coping very well. I did all possible to help but that took it toil on him.
I think it was the shared water that was provided may have been the cause.

Any pain killers suggestions will be very much appreciated. His arthritis is getting worse. He limps for a while when walking but it seems to improve after a while. I know his spine is hurting him at night and he cries at any sounds outside.
He could do with having a tooth removed but a veterinary nurse said the anaesthetic could be too much and we could lose him.

He's happy today and he had his paracetamol last night as well as his oils, recommended by a vet, so it's all good today

I'm so sorry your little one is suffering. Let's hope you can keep them going for a good while yet.

I'm taking each day at a time and making the most of every day especially our little naps together.

I am not sure how well it would work for him or what your vet would say, but my vet told me to give my 13 or 14 year old German shepherd mix carprophen. I think it can be hard on their liver and kidneys though.

I only have phone access to a nurse speaks asks the vet that employs her They live far away but she'll visit soon.

He's 12 702 kilos
The veterinary nurse believes that he can take a whole paracetamol every 3 hours if needed. I've used one at night for the past two nights because I know that that pain relief can stop working .

I will try either a quarter or third of a capsule in the next meal because I'm supposed to take 2 a day. In place of this paracetamol and see how he goes tonight.

DH & I have arthritis, bursitis, rheumatoid, hip aches sleeping, restless leg, I also have scoliosis, slipped lumbar disk,

I have the same as above but many disks have disappeared

a bum leg, & currently a broken arm. A bevy of old age symptoms so we take magnesium to lessen pain right before bed.

I'm taking these from now on and so is my dog

Some people drink a calcium/magnesium mix but I'm prone to kidney & gallstones

I'm wary of the calcium supplements

so we take just the magnesium & it calms down pain. I take a 500mg magnesium gelcap just before bed if pain is really bad. Anything that calms pain rather than increases pain is a boon!

Wonder if magnesium would help dogs the way it helps people?

I'm risking this for my dog, I think it's a pretty safe gamble

Wow. And I thought only cats had 9 lives. That poor thing has gone through a lot. My girl also has bad teeth. She has had several teeth pulled. This last time my vet asked me if we wanted to chance putting her under with her age and problems. I told him..she's in pain..I've had toothaches. :/ I hope this doesn't sound heartless but I told him it would be easy for her to go while asleep. She did fine! Thank the heavens. I love this little cutie. You asked about pain relief. Tramadol is working for her many different pains going on. She still has that ..pretty good..quality of life that I can see. Like I said, she's a Shi Tzu, I keep her coat shaved but her ears and tail. Doesn't have that furry face. You can tell that she is wagging her tail happily in the one.
