Just to update that I found buckeye chicks at the Frederick Farmers Cooperative feedstore on South Street in Frederick. So the immediate need is resolved.
I am looking for buckeye chicks or hatching eggs. Am willing to drive, but no farther than about 1.5 hours around Frederick MD.
Any leads would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Jo
Just wanted to share my frustration about my visit to Bowman’s North Glade feedstore in Keymar yesterday. This is what happened:
I needed Blue Seal organic chick grower feed. I called the store (which is about 20 miles from my house) to check that they had it in stock. The young lady who...
ETA: This was not one of mine! If someone else is missing chickens in the area of Yellow Springs, please check this out. It looked like an australorp or an australorp/mix to me. A gorgeous chicken, obviously well cared for.
I had a huge predator attack last week and lost 14 of my 31...
No need for heat. The coop is small enough that they will keep each other warm. How is the ventilation? This is much more important than heat. I have permanent ventilation along the roof eaves which I never cover, and my chickens are fine. As someone else said, by providing heat you are...
I haven't heard that EE are excessively agressive or flighty. Many people have them and love them. They are certainly easier to come by so if the blue/green color is not an absolute goal, I'd say go for easy for your first flock (or mix them with some other breeds, get one of each of 3...

Whitmore Farm in Emmitsburg sells pure bred ameraucanas but he only sells straight run, so you run the risk of getting a rooster. It may also be a bit far from you, but the quality of his birds is great.
Also, Meyer hatchery has started selling pure bred ameraucanas too. You have a...
Thanks for your report. Very helpful. I think I'll just resort to butchering them myself. I have no problem (mentally) doing that but it is a lot of work. Another thought occurred, I could also take them to the poultry swap in the fall at MsBear's place.
Anyone ever brought any birds to the Westminster Livestock Auction on Thursdays? I wonder how this works and what the process is. I may be looking at 14 roosters in the batches of chicks I got from Will Morrow at Whitmore. If I can't sell them all (I sold 2 yesterday, yay!) it's either...
I have four 14 week old Ancona Roosters for sale:

In case someone would be interested.
Hi neighbor! I live off of Gambrill Park Rd too, about a mile north of Hamburg rd. I have 46 chickens right now but about 10 boys will have to be harvested once they grow a little bit bigger.
I'm always happy to talk chickens so if you'd like to stop by you're welcome!
Ok I give up. I could've sworn I read on here by one of the regulars that they build chicken coops to order, sometimes just putting down the frame and letting the buyer finish the thing. For the life of me I can't find this post anymore. If you know who this is, or if you're reading this and...
Yes, his chickens are real good quality. Only thing I do not like is that he doesn't sex the chicks. Last year I got 4 ameraucana's from him. 3 boys and 1 girl. I felt sorry for the lady I sold the two extra to that I did not want. She ended up with two roos. I had one roo and one hen. So here's...
I just ordered 12 chicks from Whitmore yesterday. Will said that there was a waiting list depending on the breed, so if you want chicks this spring you have to order soon and he can't give a guaranteed date as it depends on the hatch. He only accepts orders through the website to be able to...
