Would be best to get some Baytril (enrofloxacin), Cipro, or *maybe* Clavamox or Augmentin. Best bet would be to have a vet look at him started on antibiotics ASAP.

One of the things I do is weigh them... my poults are weighed at hatch, then every week or two until they are much larger. One of the first signs they are sick is no weight gain or weight loss. Young, healthy fowl should make daily gains, so if I don't see proper gains, I know...
My point was that for *any* medication added to food and/or water to be effective, the sick bird must be eating and drinking, right? Most sick birds are not. Proper treatment of just blackhead is metronidazole at no less than 30mg/kg by mouth once a day for five days, worming with something that...
We're all entitled to our opinions, right? Cayenne worked for you, great, but it didn't work for someone else and I sure wouldn't rely on it. For me it's metronidazole, Baytril, Safeguard and tube feeding if needed, period. That will save close to 100% of them if caught soon enough.

One can get metronidazole at Petsmart in the form of a powder called API General Cure, just check the ingredients on the back to make sure it has 250mg metronidazole and 75mg praziquantil. You won't need the praziquantil, but it won't hurt to give it. It looks like this:

If you think you have blackhead you need to act fast as it can kill quickly. Read this: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/804570/coping-with-blackhead

Many people do raise poults with chickens and never have any problems, but I learned the hard way. From now on, any poult or peachick of mine will not touch the ground until it's at least six months old.
You can also use Safegaurd or Panacur paste, it's the same, Fenbendazole 10%.
1ml of the paste weighs 1 gram and 1 gram of paste has 100mg of medicine, just like 1ml of the liquid does. Make sense?
I'm not sure how effective Ivermectin is in controlling cecal and other worms, so I only use it for mites. Wazine does not kill anything but the roundworm.
