Two weeks ago 2 of my older hens got curled toe paralysis-seemingly from feed that was old or otherwise didn't provide nutrition. I'm working on this with vitamins, better feed, etc. and have taken one, Felicia, to the vet. She still has one toe curled under (the other hen, Fatty, improved...
You were exactly right about this. She was finally shot inside the tenant's attic and babies were taken out. It was a really sad ending that I had hoped to avoid. The damage came to over 11k (roof, trappers, emerg repair of holes) I wish it could have been solved another way.
Hi all, One of our 3 yo Specked Sussex, Grace, had a large impacted crop Monday (4/5/23) AM so I took her to the vet. since it was probably like this for a few days. Some grass was suctioned out but the tube kept getting clogged with grass-so very little removed. She was given subcut fluids...
Hi everyone, I found a raccoon in our coop about a month ago. Luckily no chickens killed (only because I stayed in the coop until it left). Next AM I called a very reputable wildlife company and they arrived by afternoon and set 3 havahart type traps for over a week and.... nothing. Convinced...
I'm really sorry for your loss. I know how hard that is. Are you sure it was coyotes? Seems a coyote would have taken them. I had a similar attack last year, but assumed it was a dog because none of them were taken.
Thank you so much for your reply and the article about victims. I had no idea it could get this bad, and I have separated the two Australorps for now until I can build an enclosure
I so appreciate this information. Thanks for clarify that this is indeed a situation that needs to be addressed.
I have 6 SS (3 young) and one Wellsummer (5 yrs old) and 2 Australorps (both 5 months old). The Welsummer is usually quite timid about everything. Today the Welsummer had one of Australorps pinned on the ground and was pecking her head. Two other times in the past few weeks an Austalorp (same...
I'm only asking if the dose sounds reasonable based on others' experience with it, so I can give her the full AM dose (or half that much) while I wait for the vet to call back.........I'm not asking anyone to diagnose or prescribe-just asking if it sounds about correct or not.
Thanks to...
My SS chicken is bloated, and was taken to the vet. She was prescribed Amoxi-tabs 400 mg twice a day. The pill itself is huge-and looks more like a dog sized dose. We need to cut it into fourths-
From what I've found online it seems she would get 22 mg a day (she is about 5 lbs). Even a...
I'm curious if those of you who have gotten sick, were you cleaning the whole coop? Just the poop board? Do you use shavings or sand or dirt floors? We use stall sweet under the roosting poles, and clean it using a kitty litter scoop-and there is some dust but nothing like removing shavings...
Here is the photo from that link. (this is not my chicken) I think the OP was asking about gout. I think Eggsessive was in the conversation. It looks like a Speckled Sussex
The post is from 2014 and it seems the OP has not been on BYC since 2015
i will try to fix the link
